Moldy smell when heater is on.

Hey guys, seems like the last couple years when it has been extra cold (20's) and I am running the heater full on, I notice a musty, moldy smell shortly after the heat really starts coming on, only lasts for a few minutes and generally by the time the weather warms up a bit and I don't have the heat on as much, then I forget about it before the weekend comes and I can tear it apart.
Just wondering if anyone else has run into this, or if anyone knows if there is a passenger air filter that I might need to clean out or replace?
Truck is a 2007 6.7L megacab. I searched on here but did not find anything that seemed to match up to that issue, so hoping someone has some ideas of where to check. Oh yeah, truck is in a heated garage and I have seen no signs of rodents, my first thought was maybe one of the little b*stards died in there.

I'd check the carpet on your passenger side... also check the drain for your HVAC. If the carpet is getting wet because the drain is clogged, that would be the cause. Smell your passenger side carpet at the top of the carpet (as if you were stretching your toes all the way out). If you don't smell anything nasty there, you'll have to look deeper... either the intake near the wiper area or the whole HVAC system. I think that the newer trucks have a cabin filter as well... might want to research that.

The 2007 don't have a factory cabin air filter you can remove the fan and spray a condenser/heater core cleaner deordoriser in there to remove the Odor. If the truck was owned by a smoker at sometime you can get the same smell.

My A/C smelled like high school gym socks which carried over to the heat also.
My dealer tech buddy gave me a procedure. Buy the small can of Ozium, told me to fire up the truck and put the A/C on high fan and recirculation.
Roll the windows up and spray under the heater box 4-5 blasts for 5 seconds. Don't inhale, close the door for 10 minutes at a time. Repeat 4-5 times.
Months later it's still working and cost $6.00.

Cool, will check out the passenger carpet and try the spray fix if carpet is good. I have owned it since new and don't smoke, so I know the odor is not from that, but still good info.
I will also check the intake area, hadn't thought about that.
Thanks again!!

You probably have some mold inside the air box where your cores are at. Most parts stores sell a big can of foam cleaner made for this. You crawl under the truck and stick the plastic tube that comes with it up the drain hole for your ac and spray the foam up in there. Cleans things up and drains out the hole. They usually want you to run the AC after the procedure. I have had to do this on my 95 a few times. Works great. Havent had any issues yet with my 2005.

After running the AC or the defroster, I usually run the vent for a couple of minutes before shutdown so as to remove the moisture from the evaporator.

After killing the mold in my A/C system with the Ozium,I always shut the A/C down a few miles from stopping.
