I feel your pain. Does it have a draw straw V on it? Someone had posted not long ago that the clamps used on the DSV tubing inside the tank sometimes dont do good enough and some guys have had problems with sucking air when about 1/2 tank or less.

It is inside your tank. That is one possibility.

No way to check that without dropping the tank. Maybe someone else will have some better advice to add.

I ask only because these truck have a know problem with the fuel sender..
I should have taken a picture on mine this am..read 'E' and the light was on..but when I turned it off the night before it was just under 1/2... so is the gauge right? at lunch today it was reading just under 1/2 tank..I didn't touch anything..just drove.. so is the gauge right?? did you measure the level in the tank manually? why did the problem level change from 1/4 to 1/2 tank? or is the gauge not reading right? so when it start to suck air how much to put in the tank? 15 gallon or 34? -dkenny |

My fuel sender has been failed for about 6 years.
Given the high cost of replacement and the likelihood of another failure, I just decided that a trip odometer was a useful substitute.

take fuel line off and verify your problem by cycling key to start pump. Look at top of tank and verify that your fittings are not crackedor leaking. Keep truck 3/4 full so it cant suck air. I'm betting its the fittings on top of your tank. Its a push in to pull line off type deal and the steel "neck" gets rusty and fails....thats why I installed a draw straw and new sending unit as mine was off also. And when installing a straw you have too make sure your staw is cut to length and not too short. I did mine in trk lifted bed off.
