OAXACA, Mexico - The elder daughter of U.S. President Barack Obama is spending her spring break in the historic Mexican city of Oaxaca in the company of 12 friends, a state police official said. The young tourists, including 13-year-old Malia Ann Obama, are staying at a downtown hotel in this city famous for its colonial architecture and well-preserved native American traditions, the official said. "We are here to block access to the hotel by other people and escort the vehicles that are carrying the visitors to tourism sites," the police official told AFP under the condition of anonymity. Malia Obama and her friend are guarded by 25 U.S. Secret Service agents as well as Mexican police, the official noted. The group, which arrived in Oaxaca Saturday, has already visited the architectural zone of Mitla and the tree of El Tule believed to have one thousand years. The sightseeing plan also includes visits to Monte Alban known for its archeological research sites and Oaxaca’s famous artisan quarters. The AFP, the Huffington Post and other websites have scrubbed a report about first daughter Malia Obama's school trip. On Monday, the AFP reported that Obama's daughter was on a school trip along with a number of friends and 25 Secret Service agents. The story was picked up by Yahoo, the Huffington Post, and the International Business Times, as well as UK publications like the Daily Mail and the Telegraph and other overseas publications like The Australian. But on Monday night, the story had been removed from those sites .The AFP page for the story now links to a story titled "Senegal music star Youssou Ndour hits campaign trail," as does the Yahoo page. The Huffington Post page now links directly back to the Huffington Post homepage. The Daily Mail, Telegraph, and Australian stories now lead to 404 error pages, reading "page not found." The International Business Times story also links to the IBT homepage, though a version of the original story still exists online. A spokesperson at the White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment, though given the late hour that can be forgiven. I will update here if and when I hear back from the White House, and when I hear back from spokespeople with the various websites and news agencies. UPDATE: Kristina Schake, Communications Director to the First Lady, emails to confirm this was a White House effort: From the beginning of the administration, the White House has asked news outlets not to report on or photograph the Obama children when they are not with their parents and there is no vital news interest. We have reminded outlets of this request in order to protect the privacy and security of these girls. (Just like they did for the Bush girls,right)

If you were President, you would let your kid go to Mexico on a class field trip with no Secret service protection?

You are half right....If I were President, My kid would NOT go to Mexico on any class field trip (I wouldn't allow it anyway with the danger down there now) and ESPECIALLY NOT on the American Tax Payers dime. Only a fool of a President would send his young daughter off like that while he is pretending to be worried about the Economy and the Working man.

Now if he were to make a trip down there for business and then took her along, I could at least grasp a little understanding in doing so.

Its a good thing GWB's kids were grown up. With all of your and my money that he wasted on the war on drugs and the war on terror, there was no need for anyone to pretend to be worried to be worried about you or me.
