Flood truck
Gents,
Found a 1995 3500 I want to buy for a parts/donor truck. My plan is to tear down the motor to bare block and rebuild. It has 12V, NV4500 and 4X4.
Heres the bad part, Its a Katrina flood truck. the truck was submerged durring the storm and has sat since and locked up.I think the motor should be rebuildable, any opinoins. The guy is asking 1200 for it. How bad could it possibly be. I was planing on boring one out anyhow.
Any advice appreciated. Do you think the tranny would need to rebuilt too or drained and flushed?

Another thought, assuming you get it apart, after setting so long, corrosion has taken its toll on things like the Conn. rods, Crank, etc. Even if you beadblast the rust off, there is still a chance of cracks starting.

They're out there. You might check the Insurance auctions. 12-15 year old Dodge/Cummins trucks get their sides scraped and some glass busted out, and the Ins. companies want to junk them instead of getting them fixed.
I picked up one with a flatbed and lift gate for $850 a few months back. It had a bad lift pump, broke 2nd gear apply lever and a few other minor issues. Had it running in less than an hour after I got it home. Runs great and had a full tank of fuel.
Paid 2200 for the one before that and it was in worse shape.
I would keep my eyes open in the local sale papers if I were you.
