torque converter/ rear main seal/ valve body

I'm thinking of getting them and changing them before I head for home this winter. Where is a good place to get a replacement converter? Any suggestions on the valve body? And is the rear main seal hard to get to? Do I need any special tools? If I can knock it out in a couple days I may just go ahead and do it in the boss's (heated) shop.

And does the TV cable come off the transmission or will I have to take it off the motor and thread it down through?

Thanks

there are many companies that build good torque converters such as Goerend, Suncoast, DTT. It really comes down to preference. The valve body will be determined by what you plan on doing/what you want out of the trans. If you feel confidante enough you can put a shift kit in the valve body when you have it out. If not, talk to who ever you decide to go with (might be a good idea to get the valve body and torque converter from the same people) for a valve body and tell them what you want it to do different. Once you have the trans out the rear main will take 5 mins.

It should be able to be done in a couple of days no problem if you have all the parts when you start. A trans jack and a barring tool make the job a lot easier but they are not necessary. The TV cable just pops off at the trans.

Thanks. I just need to get the rear main swapped, it was leaking pretty bad by the time I got to North Dakota. Had drops of oil on the back of the cap. I thought as long as it was apart I may as well toss a TC in there. I don't really want it to do anything different, maybe just do the bands and line pressure mods. I want to put AOD in it but won't get to it this year.

I think Goerend's website said they start at $1050. I didn't call them. Suncoast has one listed for around 650 I think. I may just hold off with the converter til I can afford a AOD transmission too.

No no no you're looking at the Lockup converters for later trucks.

You have to CALL about the 1st gen converters, they don't even exist on his site. He'll ask you how tight you want the converter and what you use the truck for that will depend how much. I've riden in a 91 truck with the $550 goerend converter in it and it's mean.

AOD, Auto Over Drive.

I'll have to call, and look at those other places when I get it apart. The leak got worse as I went, but I didn't add any Lucas til I had run 1200 miles. I need to drain it, too. I just spun on a new filter before I left home. The Baldwin had 8 holes in the base and they were bigger than the 6 in the Mobil 1 filter I put on. I'll be switching back.

I do believe if you buy the t/c for the 727 you have if you later change to a 518 w/od you can reuse the same conveter.
