Gauges are in and I'm looking for some more ooph. I want to put in a Smarty or Smarty Jr. I've seen a number of used units advertised here or on ebay.

Besides a reputable seller, is there any thing else I need to look for in a used unit? I know some have different software versions, but I'm guessing most can be updated. I've heard about some being VIN locked. Is there a way to check that out ahead of time?

No way to check out a unit being VIN locked ahead of time. You just have to trust the seller. The unit will only be VIN locked if the previous owner did not return his truck to stock before trying to sell the unit. They will all only program one truck at a time.

I'm no Smarty expert (I have used several other brands of programmers though), and most can be updated over the internet.
