I have heard of it being done, but frankly I don't see the point. I had an 06 Dodge with the 48RE and in my opinion it was a better trans with the cummins for towing than how the allison works in my Chevy. The allison keeps the engine in higher rpms which works great with the duramax, but the 48RE would really let the cummins work harder. In my opinion the money spent on converting would be better used by beefing up the existing engine and trans.
good point, forgot about the aisin. that would be a better route since it will mate right up to the cummins. I'd like to have a lower first gear and an extra top end gear like you get out of a six speed manual but my truck has the 4spd auto so thats what brought the question up. thanks for the input
