Remote unlock sets off panic

I have a 2002 2500 diesel and lately when I use the key fob to unlock the truck the panic alarm goes off - just the horn no lights blinking. It only does it the first unlock in the morning - the rest of the day it is fine. I have replaced the batteries in the key fob but no change. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jack

I took my Fob apart and put a small piece of electrical tape over the "Panic" contacts, I also disabled the "BEEP" when the doors lock or unlock.

I didn't think the neighbors would appreciate hearing the airhorns HONK twice @ 0530 every weekday........

He gave you good advice.
You need to isolate where the problem is, whether its the fob, or the truck.
Start with the fob and try it. If it still acts up, its in the security system.

I disabled the horn beep but in further reading of the manual I find it is most likely a defective security system. I only get the horn beeps when unlocking first thing in the morning and only if there is a significant temperature change over night. The book says if the security system is triggered the user is alerted when unlocking with 3 horn beeps which is just what it is doing. I try and push the panic button to shut it up but it beeps 3 times. I have thought I was just not fast enough getting to the panic button. Thanks for the responses - hope the weather warms up so this stops.

I had that same prob a couple years back *shrugs* no tips but it only happened when the weather was really cold and up here that happens a fair bit but it hasn't done it for about a year now. Though I have changed out batteries in the fob and the truck past summer, not sure that did it.

Yesterday there was no horn blowing when I unlocked the truck but last night it got cold again with much warmer morning temps and sure enough the horn beeped the 3 times to let me know the security system had been activated. I guess i will just have to live with it until the weather stabilizes. I think it did the same last year but it did not last as long as it is doing this year. Thanks for the suggestions - I did turn off the horn confirm when I lock the door.

Mine did this early on but after replacing the door lock switches it has only done it once in the last two years. Its a glitch in the computer as far as I can tell. Search 3 beeps, three honks, etc and you'll find some info on this issue.

Thanks - I'll have to check the door lock switches - mine seems to be temperature change related. I did the search and see I am not the only one with this issue. Maybe it has something to being a white truck also.

Row-J's did it and he's got that nice silver color. Mine also seemed to be occuring during colder temps and higher humidity. We thought it could be related to my neighbors Jeep Grand Cherokee, our home being close to FM radio towers or possibly even low flying aircraft.

A Navy electronics guy on here, (can't remember his tag) pretty much explained that those three items weren't causing it. It appeared that after replacing the door lock switches (power locks and security) that helped but then it 3 honked a couple times after that and I knew the alarm hadn't been tripped.

A new ECM last August and it hasn't done it since. This was the Navy guys idea that was causing it. Fortunately my warranty covered all but $100 of it. It was a $1500 repair. Good luck with this!
