Smarty w/ 48RE?

I have seached the forums but never seem to find the info I am looking for.

I am looking to get a Smarty for a power adder instead of the Edge I have now. I like the smoke from the Smarty and it adds much more power. Currently I have the stock 48RE in my truck and don't have enough money saved put for a built tranny.

When I get a smarty what level is safe to run with a stock tranny? Also do all the levels smoke?

I'm personaly against any power mods on a stock tranny.

I was thinking a similar thought concerning stock tranny. I had added a few items to mine while it was stock but really took it easy as I had heard to many stories of people that hurt theirs even when they were STOCK..

I was driving my stock trans with Smarty on Mild 5 but was very easy on throttle as I was just trying to improve mileage. Save that liquid Gold..

Good luck and keep saving for a built trans so you can add some safe power.

I will second that, I ran mine on SW5 (highest setting for a stock 6 speed), and my transmission lasted 4 months, (burnt clutches). Great now thou, just got the truck back from my rebuild, all HD parts, and feeling fine.

I would say no more than about 60-80hp somewhere in there. If you tow a big trailer I would advise to not run it at all pulling something heavy. I have ran mine on 5 when the weather was really bad that way it was easier to drive around in the snow and it seemed to smoke a little but not that bad

I was cautious when I first got my Smarty and ran SW4...after about an hour I loaded up SW9 and havent looked back since. Ya know what they say; curiousity killed the cat...

i currently run sw5 on mine and she does fine. no shutter from the torque converter or anything and i have almost 70k on it. with the 90hp setting it smoked nicely and smokes awhole lot lugging it. with the addiion of the torque management the truck shifts smoothly and it def helps out the tranny. it holds up if i stomp off the line it holds fine.....

i have a built tranny waiting to go in within the next 3 weeks so we will see how the smarty does then. on a side note after installing my FASS pump and fuel pressure gauge. isee that stomping the truck on the smarty pulls the pressure down 6 to 7 lbs- im wndering how bad that is n a stock truck considering stock pressure is 6 to 8. food for thought.

I run my daily driver everyday with the Smarty on 9 and MP-8 on 100 percent. It dyno'd 518 this past Friday night.....after towing my 10,000lb travel trailer earlier that day. ( no change in power settings)

Sled pulled for the first time Saturday night! Wow, what a rush! I was told the sled weighed in at 35,000lbs (but I don't really know)

Pulled my travel trailer home Sunday. All on the stock original 86,000 mile 48RE with a DD pan.

But, don't do what I do!! Follow the advice of all the others about not adding big power on the stock trans. I have been darn lucky. It really is a gamble. I just felt a little more aggressive with mine since I am about to get it built right in a couple of weeks or so. But for now if feels as good as it ever has....no sign of slippage so far.

..

Level 3 (60hp on Senior) and mild tq mgmt is all i ran when my trans was stock....no issues, and that's the stated max for a stock trans (from MADS documentation)....even at that level, there is huge drivability improvements, throttle response, power,....very worth it.....

IMHO anything greater than level 3 is putting your trans on borrowed time...unless you drive with an egg shell under the throttle pedal...and that takes the fun out of it.

Smarty can smoke on level 3 just fine....with newer versions you have to try a little harder, but it's still there.

Run mine on sw5. No shudder or slip but I am kind of easy on it. tried sw 7 got the slip and shudder on it just getting on it to merge at highway speeds.used sw 3 for a while but get better fuel milage with sw5 and the cfm intake. Also throttle response is better, light pedal to get truck moving and keep it moving.
