Need advice on an early 2nd gen ?

I'm looking at a 1994 Dodge 3500 12v, auto, 2wd, with 140k and they are asking 6.5k.

Would I be better off with a later 2nd gen or go with a 1st gen ?

Thanks guys !

Don't know on the price depends where you are 4X4, club cab etc. The 94 auto is around 160 horse but is capable of much more with very little $ thanks to the reliable P7100 pump. Which will also get close to 20 mpg if you drive it nice. Main downfall is the auto tranny. If it quits, spend a little more for a heavy duty trans and you will have a great truck. 2nd gen 12 valve is the way to go, if I didn't need a crew cab I would still have mine.

I love my SRW long bed 2wd 94, but stole it for 1500 dollars with 230K miles on it. Good truck, I get 19.5 mpg driving gently around town, and it is now quick enough to embarrass my father's 2008 stock 6.7 . The trans is a bit of a downside, but they can be made to hold at greater than stock power. A set of gauges, and a TST cam plate/boost elbow made it very fun to drive for not much money.

Price seems a little high but it all depends on condition and how well it was maintained.
I personally wouldn't pay that much unless it was one owner.

I like mine, bodys getting a little rough, may look for a chassis to put my drivetrain into.

There's nothing wrong with a 94. Any of the autos are marginal in stock form, regardless of the year. Mine has 192,000 on it, and is just hitting its stride. The transmission has been rebuilt, and that's it. It has been the most reliable truck that I have ever owned, and the most pleasing.

Price sounds kind of high to me for that mileage and for a reg cab.

I have a '95 2-wd with automatic, and it's the most reliable truck I've ever owned too. 273,000 miles on it now.

I just bought a 94 RCLB 2wd 5sp with 210,000 miles. Original owner it's whole life except for several months last year. IT IS FLAWLESS....power EVERYTHING and it all still works perfect. I paid $4,400

Got a 94 3500 with 295k miles and it has been the best. Had to have the trans. rebuilt and clutch at 290k. Still going strong pulling a trailer all the time.
