Hood Trap

Hope this doesn't happen to any of you but I thought I had lost my hand when I was cleaning under the hood on my truck. I was wiping everything down after giving the truck a wash job. Due to all the dust under the hood and on the engine, it was getting wiped down also. I had the hood up only about halfway so I could reach the underside of the hood. A gust of wind suddenly slammed the hood down on my right hand which was at the left hood hinge. The hood latched! All the yelling never raised my wifes attention so after about 20 minutes, I used my left hand to lift the corner of the hood ever so slightly and pulled my right hand out, leaving a generous amount of skin behind. Fortunately, nothing was broken but I do have a bruised hand and loss of skin.

Sucks about the hand, hope all is back to normal with it.

Whenever under the hood, I open it all the way, and I jam in my handy wooden hood holder open. (since it's always windy in New England) But yes have to be carefull, the gas struts are ok, but not as strong as the old styld hoods with the big springs. Gota watch these suckers.

I had something similar happen to me with the Dodge Magnum. The hood came down and knocked me in the head. Man that hurt. So I don't trust those gas struts anymore, and made a custom length broom stick as a hood prop. Works on both the car and the truck.
