died and won't start
died and won't start
My brother just bought a '93 W250, the guy said he was driving down the interstate and the truck died, he coasted to a stop then it restarted and he made it a few hundren feet and it died again.
the guy took the truck to VIP
and they put on a new lift pump and filter. still no start. they said it was the injection pump. Now we dont know how long the truck has been setting.
So my brother checks the tank...empty, maybe the guy took the fuel out, don't know. Anyways, add fuel, pump lift pump, bleed at the filter on both inlet and outlet, bleed all injectors, everything gets fuel. still no start.
will run on either
shutoff has power
fuel at all points
truck will cough sometimes other than that it just cranks
So..
1. can the injector pump die on the spot and cause this?
2. can an air leak in the supply line cause this? (the injectors do get fuel)
3. will the pump off his 89 swap to the 93 without changing anything else?
4. should he go and bleed some more?

I have seen stranger things, but I have never seen an IP just QUIT.
2. can an air leak in the supply line cause this? (the injectors do get fuel)
Yes, Air can suck in and not let the pump build pressure.
3. will the pump off his 89 swap to the 93 without changing anything else?
No, you have to change the delivery valves otherwise, yes.
4. should he go and bleed some more?
I would completely remove the fuel shutoff selinoid and gut it just to be sure it's not letting enough fuel out to see but not to start. Then bleed some more. Once you're sure the IP is bleed well, Bleed the first four injectors, leave the last two or any two lines unhooked and it should start. The time it takes to reattach the other lines allows any additional air to get out. Just my $.02

Got it
Thanks for the help, should have ripped the shutoff solenoid apart at first.
that fixxed it.
So the guy thought he had a $550 repair with the injection pump.... turned out to be $10..... Again thanks for all the info over the past year and half.
