So are most people using CJ oil now??
Yep, hot topic. However, the proof is in the pudding. Do some research and you will find that there are plenty of excellent UOA's to look at from people running CTD pickups that are using CJ oils (Early Cam wear would be easily caught with a UOA.) I have used AME Amsoil 15-40, and am now trying Schaeffers 5W/40 which is CJ. I have some Delo 15-40, rated CJ, that I will not hesitate to use. I think for the money the JD plus 50 15-40 is probably a great oil and as everyone probably knows it CI+4. Member Roperteacher has used it with good UOA's. They will continue to make it for years to come and any John Deere dealership carries it, only around 13 bucks a gallon. I have not heard or read of anyone wearing a cam out or any other lubrication problems from CJ rated oils. IIRC Terry Dyson has no bad things to say about the CJ formula. Google him if you want, his business specializes in reading UOA's - I think he is a tribologist I am not sure. Anyway IMO, any correctly rated oil changed regularly will not give any problems. In fact, I would be interested to see if someone had an engine grenade because of poor lubrication from any properly rated oil that is changed as required. I have never heard of it, bit would like to read about it if anyone knows of a case.(Oh,I would add ZDDP with installation of a new cam even with a good CI+4) Cheers
Yep, a great oil too. I had some high iron levels with it, but I am not blaming it on the oil, because truck was relatively new, and I flogged it quite often cause of recent mods I had done.
I have gone back to AME. For good. It's what I'm sticking with from now on, unless I'm in an area where I can't plug in for extended periods...then I'll run the Amsoil 5W40.
AME is very good in cold weather, though.

There is an old thread on here I'm going to try and find. Don M did some independent testing on the zddp levels between many of the CJ's and the CI's still out there and found the zddp levels in the CJ's to be to drastically lower,as much as 75%. Reason for the testing was he was seeing premature wear on the cam lobes on trucks that had been running CJ. Like mentioned earlier, our flat tappet design needs the higher zddp levels. From the way I understand it, it is one of the main ingredients that helps the oil adhere to moving parts so that there is an oil film to prevent a "dry start-up".To each their own, JD 50+ CI is only $1-$2 per gallon more than the CJ's at your local auto parts store. Thats cheap insurance in my book.
Hey Nelrod, get up with me today.I might just take Jake up town today to get shoes put on him.

I've been running the 0W40 in my 2007.5 for the last two oil changes with great results.

Note to self.... Don't answer posts that you read without your reading glasses!.
That would require an Oil Analysis on a virgin sample. Pretty hard to find....I imagine?
But a used sample with the mileage used would be equally valuable, IMO.
What specs are listed here.... are rather impressive. (I was not real familiar with this oil till this thread). Appears to be a high quality, non synthetic oil. Only thing I would rather not see is a TBN so high.

I love the oil thingy.... I think I will switch to JD.... U cant get the Premium Blue Classic anymore.... (in cali)
but by looking at http://www.turbodieselregister.com/TDR57_Oil.pdf, I might switch to syn... and use Rotella Syn 5W40... but 5W40 is for cold weather, right?
And is the Rotella Syn from the TDR report still the same one they sell right now?
What is Rotella T6? (xxx - i started another separate post...)
What about ZDDPlus mixed w/ regular CJ-4 Premium Blue? Good combo?
Isn't syn better for the turbo too?
thx
