For ball joints,
Dynatrac is the only manufacturer making truly bullet proof joints.
With your wheel bearings I would go with a locking hub conversion kit from DLUX fab or any other manufacturer.

I have had this same problem for some time now, it comes and goes.
Mine starts off as a slight vibration on the highway that explodes when you start to apply the brakes. Exactly as you descibe it...

There are no autolocking hubs or any kind of hubs for that matter on these trucks.
02 trucks got rid of the CAD unit or Center-Axle disconnect.
The drive shaft and thus diff are always turning on...

Thats the only place your going to find them, I found that out the hard way when I needed to replace mine because the threads were worn.
Tried every nut and bolt place in town and nothing the same...

Cause almost always comes back to the sh$%T track bar design on these trucks, or the ball joints. My 2 cents

These rear ends are exposed to pretty intense torque inputs and heat as well, Amsoil for this guy here as well, it really isnt that expensive either.
I think I paid 13$ a quart for some Amsoil...

I would address the trucks weaknesses first before I even touched the engine with the exception of a good lift pump. Especially if you want a truck you can drive for long periods of time without...

Drove 11+ straight hours at times with no sore back or anything. minus the legs crampin up a bit lol.
