Mine has the same build date, and has run like a top for 31,000 miles. One issue I did have was a loose clamp on the fuel tank.(Wasn't serious as it did not hit the ground....)

Quick fix is to install a toggle switch between the "Switch" wire on your auxiliary solenoid to the starter.
Or even a switch to bypass the fuel solenoid. Make sure you get the correct amp switch...
