For yall who are running waste oil in your trucks I have a few questions that I havent really seen answered.
1. What is your milage like?
2. What percentages are you running?
3. Do you cut back your mixture in the winter months?
4. Has anyone had injector clogging problems form WO?
I just started running WO this last tank and the cummins seemed to really like it. I think that my milage was actually up as I averaged 17.87MPG with 4.5% WO! This was with 50 miles of city driving, 400 miles interstate at 75-80MPH, and 1.5 hours of idling through 5 miles of traffic at the Charlotte race last night. I did about everything ya can to kill the milage and it still came out good.
Righ now I am trying to see how much WO I can get away with running in the truck. Each tank I plan to add a little more to it till I either get excessive smoke, pinging, lower milage (within reason), or reduced engine power. This tank is 9.5% and so far she starts up nice and smooth without power loss while driving. Actually the motor seems a little smoother than before. The haze out the tailpipe doesnt seem to exist yet off idle or under hard exceleration so I think that 10% will be fine for daily driving. What do ya'll think?

Yep I have ready that Dusty but thanks. I have searched the board with every combo I could think off along with the net but didnt really find much. The thread you mentioned was the best one actually. I am trying to get some more feed back from people that have been doing this for awhile along with ratios that work.

Thanks wanna diesel. I was hoping a few more people would chime in on this though as I am trying for a wide concensus. As much as people have kicked this around you would think that there would be more than just a few people running WO.

1. What is your milage like? it goes up but not by a whole lot that I've noticed maybe 1-2 mpg but with my driving habits and city to hwy miles changing so much every week..I cant really get an accurate read on it...

2. What percentages are you running? Just bumped up to 20% yes twenty on a 1998 12V I ran 10% for a while and slowly moved up.....no adverse effects noticed. NOTE..Iprolly change my fuel filter way more than it needs to be changed as i do it just about every other oil change for the hell of it...but i have had alot of bad diesel around where i am stationed.

3. Do you cut back your mixture in the winter months? No i use Howes or Powerservice to keep from gelling....Howes in last chance only as it froze on me last winter.....I always carry Diesel 911 though..if not for me to help a ford out or someone stranded. hehehehe

4. Has anyone had injector clogging problems form WO? No 120,000 on these stock injectors...

These Waste oil threads always start a big ruckus on this board.......So you'll get many varied opinoins..I am simply stating what I've tried/trying and not reccomending you try anything you are leary or afraid of..

Thanks Zack. You told me everything I wanted to know! You are right about people getting in a tizzy about WO. The way I see it I will run it in the 95 but am leary about doing anything to the new one because of warrenty and injector issues. I know I generate enough oil around the house to run near 10% all the time.

Are you running straight filtered waste oil? Not processed?
I did a little experiment last night. I put a 5 gallon pail of waste oil outside.
The temperature went down to 26F. The pail is gelled. Very thick with a white layer on top.

Straight filtered WO. So far so good. The temp is only hitting mid 50s at night down here so I am still good there. I have a clear jug some of the oil is in and so far it looks like it did the day it came out of the engine. I am starting to think that I should run some fuel addidtive in the next few weeks though. My 600 gets it every tank full so its not like I dont have any laying around the garage.

Scotty, he's talking about waste motor oil, not waste cooking oil. At least I think so...

Thanks for the heads up. Good to hear as I am starting to run the waste oil this week. I am not convinced that WVO is going to be the way to go in cold climates yet.

My plan is to run 2%, go to 5% and maybe 10%. If all goes well, I may go higher.
I am buying a batch of new filters and oil sample kits for this winter project.

Sorry scotty Yes it is waste oil. I would skip the 2% and go straight to 5% personally. Thats what I did. If cummins says that the Centinnel(sp) system was good for 5% I think 5% would be safe on any cummins motor. At 10% I think I am experiencing a slight power loss at full throttle. Nothing major at all. In fact it could just be a marginal fill up as the last batch of diesel I got looked like Pepto Bismo Fuel down here is always marginal at best. When I fill up in VA I consistantly get better milage. I havent put many miles on the truck lately but am planning a 800 mile road trip in 2 weeks so I will post some milage numbers for you at running 10%. Only bad thing is 400 miles will be loaded (approx 6000lb) and 400 back hauling the empty trailer (2000lb).

Makes sense. I will do that. I have several gallons of 10W30 and a few gallons of 15W40 dino.
