ruined 6.7L already

dropped the truck off at the dealer for a reflash this morning and saw a fresh short block on a pallet. talked to the same mechanic that replaced my 5.9L short block awhile back (oil leaks, non performance related) and he said it had a Banks system, $10,000 repair, void warranty. pistons and cylinder walls were scored. the #5 piston was really bad.

"Banks" is sometimes used incorrectly as a general term for a box, in all fairness to Banks I don't think they even have anything out for the 6.7L yet. still be careful, Chrysler is really starting to crack down. this is the same dealer that let me get away with my Edge, even went as far to replace the fuse box cover with one without velcro when a Chrysler rep was in town. some dealers are cool, sometimes it's not their decision. be forewarned!

pretty sure the mechanic was wrong on that one, Banks definatly doesn't have anything out for the 6.7L yet, & if they did I doubt it would add enough to get the thing that hot!! J/K in all honesty though Banks stuff would be in my opinion one of the last power adders out there to cook an engine, they tend to play it quite safe! but like i said as far as I know they don't even offer any 6.7l stuff yet?????? The 6.7 run very warm stock. A buddy of mine has a stock 6.7 and he just put gauges in it. It runs 1100 degrees unloaded going down the road. That is bone stock too. I have a feeling there will be alot of 6.7 down untell they get eveything fixed up on them.

Active regeneration and the EGR has a lot to do with the 6.7s running a little toasty. Man at this rate I am NEVER going to get rid of my truck.

The only 6.7 component that Banks sell so far is their replacement intercooler

if i am correct, after turbo EGT's are about 300 degrees cooler than pre turbo. just keep an eye on it and remember that you are a bunch cooler than pre.

ya, like was stated above, I'm sure the new 6.7Ls are running hotter to make it easier to clean up their emissions.

I do think it's quiet funny that most people on this site don't like Banks stuff because he tends to tune his stuff so conservatively. I understand that everyone buys performance parts for performance, but what in the world good is it if you toast a 6K (option price) engine?

(sorry to hijack with moderate rant comment)

/end hijack.

What I really don't understand is how is heating up the engine, which moves it out of its efficiency range, really helping anything. Yes I know you blow out 90% less particles but you are increasing the fuel demand, thus burning more of it. And the soot eventually gets burned off and goes into the atmosphere anyways...so how is that any better than a cooler running well timed engine with a cat?

correct, out of a truck with a void warranty because the owner was running some sort of performance box.

all I saw was the damaged short block which was ready to ship back to Chrysler or Cummins, wherever they end up.
