Relocate Stereo to glovebox?

I have a 2004.5 Ram 2500 Quad Cab. I am attempting to install an aftermarket stereo into my glovebox. It looks like even with cutting it won't fit or if it does it will be super tight. I don't want to cut anything only to find out that I miscalculated and its not going to fit.

Have any of you seen a sucessfully mounted stereo in a glovebox of a newer ram? I can't find any posts on any forum that says someone has done it. I'd be very interested in pictures if you know of any.

just out of curiousity, why would you put a headunit in the glovebox? would make it sorta hard to reach no?

Id think to make a standard DIN size unit fit youd have to do some cutting, you might try the storage compartment under the center seat, I dont know the size of it since I dont use it that much but lots of people put subs down there.

I'm putting an 8" touch screen LCD in my dash and a computer under the center seat. The faceplate for the stereo will be mounted on the drivers side visor and I can control the stereo by flipping down the visor or by using the remote.

It looks like I'm going to have to put it under the passenger's seat. The glovebox is to shallow.

Are you needing it to be accessable to the driver? Or is this for a hideaway unit like a DVD or something. I have a 7" in the stock location, hideaway (brain) under the steering column (LOTS of room there!) and my DVD is under the passenger seat. Under the pass. seat there is a flat bar just perfect for mounting a DIN sized product, you would have to do some removal to mount to it unless you do like I did and zip tie it (just a dvd). I have just about had the whole truck apart looking for a location to mount the DVD within reach so before you go taking apart, I can probably tell you why a certain location is a problem. Good luck.

why don't you move the hvac controls and mount the radio head unit there.
the hvac controls will probably fit in the glovebox.

wow . Thats quite the setup you have planned. Would it be possible to put the HU in the cubby hole below the HVAC controls? Though youd have to cut to make it fit....

Post some pics and keep us updated on it, sounds like a pretty cool install.

good luck
Jeff

My dvd player in din sized and I have just the one box for a 10" sub under the pass. side rear seat. Right next to the box I built a stainless bracket and mounted that to my box. I put a box covering the whole thing and now all you see is the face and the s.s. tread plate with a hole cut in it for the face to come out. Works good for me and I can still (though difficult if trying to navigate traffic) get the dvd's in or out easily. I've got some pics but I havnt got them on here yet. Ill get to workin on that.
