Rear window replacement help
My son was helping me by loading the back of my truck with firewood and one of the logs got away from him. I called a buddy that runs a glass replacement franchise and he said that they don't do them anymore on the Dodge trucks because it is too difficult. They have had to repaint a couple trucks because of the damage that incurred during replacement.
Has anybody heard of this? Could you recommend a good non-powered slider to go in it?

I had mine replaced about two years ago at the dealer under warranty.
I've not heard of this, but if your buddy won't or can't do it, maybe try another place?

I found a local outfit that quoted $360 for a replacement slider.
The dealer quoted $800. ![]() |

A local glass shop in Texas quoted me about the same price of $360. All I need is the left hand glass on my slider, but apparently I either need to buy a complete new slider assembly or change to a single glass for not that much less.

Right after I bought my truck new I drove through a dip in the curb and my ATV lunged forward and popped out the rear glass. My insurance covered it 100%, as I have zero deductible on the glass. Nevertheless, the local glass shop installed an aftermarket slider because the stock one was too hard to get at that time. Yes, they did scratch my truck but bought a jar of paint from a paint shop and fixed it up pretty good. I got to keep the jar for future repairs.
The window is a CR Lawrence brand. Has worked great the past six years. Block atv tires, keep the front rack at least 10" from the window.

The only damage to my truck, was the dent/scratch from the 5th wheel kiss
. The local glass shops all had the solid glass I needed, quoting from 350-almost 500 Canadian. I had it done by 3 o'clock Tuesday, after calling around Monday afternoon. Nobody hesitated, hummed, or hawed about damaged.

About a year ago I had some lumber come off my trailer and go through my rear electric slider. They managed to scratch my truck while replacing the window. No problem as the glass company was part of a body shop, so they fixed my paint and found that the installer had cut a slice in my headliner. They did replace the headliner and fix the paint, but the guy said they didn't like doing the Dodge rear windows because of the way the headliner is installed. They said there isn't enough money in the Dodge's to make it worth while.

I have heard of the same thing, some places won't do Dodges. I had to have mine done 2 yrs ago and it was like over 500 US dollars, my insurance covered anything after 500, which sucked. I still have a small leak when it rains heavy. The Dodges are just a nightmare I guess. Good luck.

Rear window replacement
Two years ago someone broke the sliding window out of my truck. It cost $400 to have it replaced with an OEM replacement, but the glass shop didn't get the window in right and it leaked like crazy. I wound up using black silicone to seal the leak and it took three tries before I finally got it. I prepped the back of the cab by running painter's tape around the edge of the glass so when I smeared the silicone on it would look like a plain black seal. My window turned out pretty good, I later realized it was leaking around the third brake light, but I sealed all the way around just to make sure, inside and out. Ended up replacing my carpet after it mildewed cuz the water leaked under the carpet.
Anyway, if you have it replaced, get a SOLID window...much harder to break...make sure it doesn't leak, and put a headache rack on. DC

If you have to seal the window cuz it leaks, using painter's tape around the glass before you caulk the window will give you a nice crisp edge to your silicone job so it blends with the existing rubberized edge of the glass. It's not ideal..but it seals, it works, and it pretty much becomes invisible once you're done.

I busted mine last Christmas with a tree. Got it replaced Monday morning with a non- factory glass and didn't like how it looked (stuck out from the body about 1/2 inch) so I had them replace it again with the factory piece on Wednesday no muss no fuss no leak.

I should have taken it to a dealer for the glass. The guys the shop used to install it didn't appear competent or even english-speaking shall we say...any glass work in the future, I'm taking it to a dealer.

Well I got it replaced and so far it looks like the guy did a good job.
He put a CR Lawrence slider in which looks really nice, and commented on what a (insert expletive) the Dodge windows are to install. |
