rear seal oil leak - Dodge Diesel

I don't find much info searching on rear seal leaks or at least what I presume is a rear seal . Quite a lot of oil is driping between pan and converter .Haveing only worked on gas rigs I'm wondering whats involved with changeing rear seal. 92 5.9 with 167000 mi. automatic transmission.

Mine is leaking bad as well. I have the parts and now just waiting for time/weather.

As I've been told its not that bad. You have to pull the tranny and take the flywheel off(check for cracks). Then you have to drill into the origanal seal and use a slap hammer/ dent puller to get the old seal out. be careful not to knick the crank. To install the new one use the supplied install tool from cummins.

****New seal MUST be installed dry or it will leak

You can use a little dish soap for lubricant.

Also change your cam plug O-ring while your there. It's only $2 peace of mind

We just put one in my dads truck. Have to remove the tranny, flywheel, etc. But then you just take the adapter plate that the starter bolts to then there is another smaller plate behind that plate that holds the seal. The seal is actually pressed into this plate, so it is very easy to change

Thanks guys I haven't looked at a manual yet so I guess it's not like a chev. where it has to fit over the flange of the crankshaft. the good news is that it was time for a trasmission fluid change anyway. I've had pretty good luck enginewise. The last problem i had was a bad connector on the speed sensor took me a while and two speed sensors to figure that one out.
