Yeah mine just got a whole new set of gears and bearings.. on it went in wed morn.. got it back on friday afternoon.
its quiet now... accept Now it makes the whine noise when you let off the throttle, Instead of when you added throttle...??? i havent put but 20 or so miles on it i figure ill put at least a 100 before taking it back in if it dont shut up... and if you feather the throttle just right where your adding power but sort of coasting in gear it whill make a louder whining noise... before i took it in it was more of a 250,000 mile gear howel yould of expected from a big rig or a wore out chevy. anyways thats my scoop..... btw ive only got 15000 on the clock.

I,ve told them about it twice. Once at about 500mi., and once at about 5000mi. The service manager at my dealership says it is "normal breakin sound". I say #!^*#!!it.

Mine is still brand new and makes the whine noise under "coasting" conditions.

I think we can all agree that the new rear ends dodge are using do not stack up to the Dana axles from the previous years.

Rear ends should not make noise until they are worn out, i have yet to see a whine go away after break in. Most of the time it just changes pitch but still remains.

new gears that are meshing properly Do Not whine.

If dodge saved a few bucks switching suppliers I am sure they are paying for it now big time.

I hope they go back to the Dana axles before I am due for a new truck. The shift collar in the front axle or some hubs would be a good idea too.

I have an 04 and after reading all the posts here (truck was at 6800 miles) I climbed underneath and checked. Rear end, transfercase, & transmission were all low. So, I changed them all out to synthetics...no gear whine anymore...

F11 Engineer....Nice pics of truck in your photo gallery....

Did you install the 2" leveling kit or just put the 315's on?

Have you taken it 4x4 and if so, did you have any mud problems building up in wheel well causing steering problems?

thanks

I also am going to live with the noise until DC comes up with a real solution. Mine is not that bad and I don't want them to just start throwing ring and pinions at it if it may not be any better than it was before.

The reason the whine is there is not a design flaw, it is because from the plant some rear ends were set up wrong and the pinion depth is off, and that is why some are on accel and some on decel. The danas were not that much better, you just could not hear the whine cause the motor was so noisy. The noise is just a noise and is not going to damage anything but your opinion of american axles. And no the noise is not a break in noise and will not go away until the pinion depth is fixed.

Mine has the 3:73 in. Mine had the noise while partial throttle. Took mine to the dealer and they started that BS about how all the new rear ends make a little noise. I informed them that my 01 dually didn't make that noise. I also informed them that the diffs in big semi trucks don't make that noise. I also informed them that in the early fifties the rear end was perfected enough to not make any noise and that this is fifty years later. i also told them to fix it and rear end noise was not an option I was going to accept. They really weren't going to do anything until I spoke with the general manager. Told him all I said above and he told the service manager to fix it or get a buy back program started. they put in new ring and pinion and zap, the noise is gone . Also had the vib problem and again I had to force the issue with them to get service. They tried to BS me saying that the new truck frams are stiffer and that why I felt more vibrations. I particularly liked the one about the engineers designed the rear end to make noise and have more vibs. BS I say. Make em fix it or make em buy it back.

I had this problem, new pinion and shaft. She's almost perfect.

I had this exact same issue with my 00 Chevy when they went to hydro forming their frames and put in AAMs. Chevy went over 100k and never had a problem.

This truck still vibrates at about 75, I think it's coming from the front end, you can hear it too but had the dealership look at it and ALLEGEDLY it's normal.
