Water Pump/Fan help needed.

I really just want a confirmation on what I think is going on.

After investigating extra noise coming from the front of my engine, I have found a significant amount of play coming from the area where the fan pulley mounts to the water pump.

Basically, when I grab the fan blades and twist the fan back and forth in a direction that is perpendicular to the rotational axis, the fan pulley rocks about 3/8th of an inch.

I am assuming I have a worn bearing or surface somewhere, but I really can't tell where till I tear it apart.

My best guess is that the water pump in on the way out the door, but are there other possibilities?

I really want to go tear it apart right now, but the whole 8-5 work thing is getting in the way, so I guess I am desk analyzing the situation.

What do you think?

The water pump isn't behind the fan, it's over towards the passenger side.
If you have that much play no doubt the fan bearing needs to be replaced.
