Water Pump/Fan help needed.
I really just want a confirmation on what I think is going on.
After investigating extra noise coming from the front of my engine, I have found a significant amount of play coming from the area where the fan pulley mounts to the water pump. Basically, when I grab the fan blades and twist the fan back and forth in a direction that is perpendicular to the rotational axis, the fan pulley rocks about 3/8th of an inch. I am assuming I have a worn bearing or surface somewhere, but I really can't tell where till I tear it apart. My best guess is that the water pump in on the way out the door, but are there other possibilities? I really want to go tear it apart right now, but the whole 8-5 work thing is getting in the way, so I guess I am desk analyzing the situation. What do you think? |
The water pump isn't behind the fan, it's over towards the passenger side.
If you have that much play no doubt the fan bearing needs to be replaced. |
