How much weight I can tow with my pickup. I see people talking about the sticker in the door that says something about gross vehicle weight. I'm not understanding this. To make things simple can someone just tell me how much I can tow with my pickup.

Thank you for the link, but it seemed to do more with campers in the bed of the pickup. I'm more interested in how much I can tow with my pickup. I'm wondering if my goose neck weighs 16,000 is this ok.

IF you're asking how to evaluate where you are vis-a-vis the manufacturer's ratings, here's a method to get you there:

First, you'll need to know the actual laden curb weight (LCW) of your truck. This is the scale weight with full tank of fuel, driver, passenger(s), options, accessories (i.e., gooseneck hitch, toolbox, etc.), cargo, etc. just like you'll be heading down the road. With the LCW as well as the truck's GVWR (on the driver's door sticker - 8800 lbs in your case, I believe) and the truck's GCWR (either in the owner's manual or on the Mulroney {new vehicle} window sticker - 20000 lbs in your case, I believe), you can use the following formulas:

Truck's GCWR - Truck's LCW = maximum allowable total weight of loaded trailer

Truck's GVWR - Truck's LCW = maximum allowable pin/tongue weight of loaded trailer.

I suspect a 16000 lb gooseneck is going to put you well over both ratings.

Now, will the truck handle the load? Yes, but that's a different discussion.

The problem with the towing guide is that it gives a trailer tow rating (1.) based on an unrealistically low curb weight (i.e., a base truck with no options or accessories and only a 150 lb driver) and (2.) totally ignores the GVWR which will be exceeded long before the GCWR is approached when dealing with a SRW truck pulling a gooseneck or 5th wheel. The formulas I gave above are "real world".
