Sluggish off the bottom...
 

Hi guys! This is my first post here and have some questions about my truck which I bought back in October. OK so... the truck is a 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 H.O. 6spd 2wd QC Daully with some add ons. It has a BD Super B Single Turbo, FASS 150/150, ARP Headstuds, AFE Intake, 4" Straight Exhaust, Southbend Dual Disc Clutch, Dynamite Diesel Injectors (but I do not know what hp they are), and a Quadzilla Commander Control with Xzillaraider DXZ01S Module. The quadzilla did not seem to be working so I just sent it back to them so they can test and or fix it. Next, the truck seems like it has alot of turbo lag when I 1st take off. Is this normal? When cruising, if I accelerate harder, the turbo will spool quickly and pull very hard. Just off the start though will it be sluggish. Another thing, What is and should be a safe egt to be looking for? What is the danger zone?

Are you used to diesels? It is not like a gasser. A turbo diesel has a substantial lag when you stomp on the pedal. I would say a good 2 second lag from pedal mash to strong pull and if the turbo is larger than stock the lag could be even longer but you would have more top end power.

This is my first diesel. I expected there to be lag. I was just comparing to a friends truck who only has injectors and fass pump. His truck seems to get up and go a lot quicker than mine. Thank you for your reply though. Would you know what the safe range in egt's should be?

I have been told it will take 1300 for a short burst. I would not go that high. I tend to try to keep it no higher than 1200, aluminum melts at 1220 degrees.

1100F is a good max to try to not go over, usually around 800F when cruising is normal.

Sounds like you are trying to get a larger turbo to spool up faster, however, to do that you need to create more exhaust gas faster, which is achieved by putting more air and fuel into the cylinder, which is provided by your turbo...can you see what's happening here?

You have some nice mods and appropriate add-ons, but you may need to address your air requirements as related to that BD super single.
