still not charging
ive changed the altornator, crank positioning sensor and put the external voltage regulator on it and its still not charging, i even had the altornator checked bye 2 diffrent shops and its good, but when i put it on the truck its only putting out .61 volts? i need some help, thanks

How are you checking the alt output and only getting .61 volts? It takes more voltage than that to get it running. I am not sure what is wrong here try to explain in detail what and how you are testing.
Start with the basics. Are you getting power to the big stud on the alt? Do you have power to the regulator and to one small stud on the alt? Is the case of the regulator screwed to a good ground?
Yes im getting power to the small studs on the back, i put a votage tester on the big wire coming out of the bottom of the altornator on the back and its reading .61 volts but the small wires and the battery are reading 12.68 volts, and im testin the big wire with it desconected from the battery.
Test it with it hooked to the battery the voltage should be the same it takes voltage at that term for the alt to work.
i did and it reads 12.61 or so then, but its still not chargin, when i turn the heater or head lights on the battery gauge drops alote. i also had the altornator tested on the truck and the shop said its not charging.

Is the regulator case a good ground?
Im not for sure but its bolted to the fender and the battery ground , but im going to add another ground to be sure
Have you checked the wiring harness connection that is located about 1-2 feet away from the alternator and lays on/near the right fender?
I had a problem like yours and it turns out it had come loose after 15 years. Unplug it and check for corrosion. |
ive checked and double checked, the altornator is not charging, everything has power and a good ground,
I had this problem two summers ago. I tore harness apart, traced wires, and bought two new alternators. It was the wire going to the crank sensor was cut by the crank balancer rubbing on it. Check that wire. Wannadiesel saved me out from that one.

i just put a brand new crank sensor on it

the big wire on the alt voltage should match the voltage at the battery exactly. I'm not to familiar with a 93, but all alternators work basically the same way. the big wire on the alt goes directly or indirectly to the battery my 99 and 01 has a big fuse in the black box under the hood |
