6.5 diesel question
I have a buddy who runs a wrecker service. His drivers have blown up several 6.5 engines, I'm not sure what the failures are. He is interested in installing rev limiters in his fleet of trucks to prevent damage. I don't know anything about the 6.5 diesels other that the reputation of being oil leaker's. Any ideas?

Save your money and switch them to Cummins.
Not much you can do to keep a 6.5 alive with a typical driver who does not own it, and needs to work it. |
Those motors dont like to be run hot probably blowing the headgaskets

Install Heath Diesel water pumps, adjust the tranny to DOWNSHIFT sooner. If it downshifts before it starts lugging, it will help the engine a LOT!

These are manual transmission trucks, I joked with him to switch to Cummins![laugh] He failed to see the humor. Any other ideas?

They are diesels, they are already rev limited.
As much as he'd like to blame the drivers, it's the crappy 6.5 liter engines. They spit out head gaskets and break cranks routinely with no provocation. |

what year?
If they are pre 1996 they can bennefit from a 96 and up dual thermostat and higher capacity water pump. Proper radiator maintenance is a must as they have a marginal cooling system to start with. Twogun
