Inverter Install
Hey Yall
My lil 225 watt power outlet plug inverter just gave up the ghost. Decided to do a bigger inverter and a permanent install. I love the 110v outlet in the new 2010's so I decided to do something kinda similar... lol I have the bucket seats with the bucket seat console and wanted a plug in the big well by the cupholders and one that could be accessed from the back. I really wanted a pure sine wave inverter but didnt feel like dropping the coin on it. Got a 1000w continuous and 2500w peak for 139 bucks. Wiring and a few other supplies and it totaled out to about 210 bucks for the whole install. I started by removing the rear panel where the a/c vents are. It just clips into place, similar to the radio bezel clips. http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/s...k/P2130048.jpg The front console came out too. http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/s...k/P2130050.jpg (the other wires are for my ipod control and remote bass for the amp) I took an extension cord and hacked it up to provide the power to the sockets. I didnt want to chop up the new inverter too much so I just made some new plugs that way If I want to take it out and use it elsewhere I can. http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/s...k/P2130051.jpg Inverter itself was mounted under the seat and the wiring through the carpet to the underneath of the console. http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/s...k/P2130052.jpg I also wanted easy access to the interters power switch so I did remove it from the inverter, extended it and installed it where the power pedal switch would be. http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/s...k/P2140053.jpg The plugs I used were from the old inverter. I used the face of the inverter as a template and used a dremel to cut the holes. The plastic was thicker than the face of the inverter so the plugs wouldnt clip in. They got welded in with a healthy dose of gorilla glue and I let them set hard before messing with them. Here is the plug from the rear and hooked up to the extension cord. http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/s...k/P2140054.jpg http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/s...k/P2140055.jpg The inverter was wired with a good 8 gauge amp wire with a glass inline fuse. Final pics in the next post. |
Here are the final install pics. I dont like the remnants of the gorilla glue around the plugs, but it was the only option I had. I can say this, they sure aint going anywhere now...

Man, I just looked over this post and realized how filthy my truck is....
Dang pipeline Right Of Ways.... Guess I know what Im doing next Sunday! [laugh][laugh] |
I like what you did. I did a similar install but used the square part of the center console to mount a receptacle. I also ran wires to the my grille guard and rear bumper so I can run things. (My inverter will run the furnace in my house in a pinch!)
