On Board Air
 

Has anyone set up and on board air system on theiser truck for filling tires? Can you post pictures or a libnk to what you did?

I am in the process of setting up my truck with air and am looking for ideas. I used craigslist and freecycle to get a used dive tank for nothing and I got a 12V compressor from EBay. Now I need to find a pressure switch and install everything on the truck.

Specifically I woudl like to see how you hung the tanks and mounte dthe compressor on the truck.

I used to put the tank and compressor under the right rear wheel well but now have it put into a truck bed tool box. I use quick-connect air fittings to connect everything together so I can remove the air tank most rickey-tick to fill up a tire or run my air jack without dragging 30 feet of hose around. I now use a simple 95-125psi air pressure switch from SquareD (Pumptrol) that works pretty well.

i bought a little 12v pump made for these air ride trucks and found an old air tank the tank is under the passenger bed side and i put the pump under the bak seat to keep it out of the weather works great for tires or my air horns whatever. Easy instal dont forget to use a relay when you wire it:)

I would like to mount the tank and compressor under the bed somehow. I figure I could make a bracket for the compressor and use some sheet metal to make a shroud around it to protect it from rocks and water splashes.

I don't want to put it under the back seat because I use that area all the time for storage and cargo.

Anyone have pictures of how they mounted their system?

I mounted my Viair compressor inside my in-bed tool box and ran the air line to the front to my Grover air horns.

My tank also has a quick disconnect for my 25ft. air hose. My system works very well and my air horns really gets the point across !!!

My air horns works so well that my wife demanded that I put a set on her Chrysler Sebring who now loves to scare drivers that get to close to her.

Where did you get a solenoid for the air horns? A friend offered me some horns that he didn't like because he was susing a manual valve and he said the horns sounded funny because he coudln't open the valve fast enough.

If you know a source for a solenoid valve please post it.

I purchased a couple of ASCO 12v electric valves off of eBay a couple of years ago. They have 3/8" NPT ports (normally closed valve) and they open and close quickly and horns are wired directly to my horn 12v wire.

I used a toggle switch inside my truck connected on the ground side of the 12valve to arm the horns or to toggle back to the stock horn (in case of a problem with any police City ordinances or when going to a car wash ect..).

I just checked eBay and the exact type I purchased is listed as per below for $45. I paid around $20 earch for mine and have worked perfect since 2006:

I found that Grover Air Horns are by far the best. I recently purchased a brand new "EMERGENCY" fire truck air horn made by Grover and plan to bolt it up soon with my other Asco 3/8" 12v solenoid valve. This one definetly would require a "Toogle Switch" between it and my stock horns because of its sound and city ordinances !!!!

Or, you could go to your neighboorhod Custom auto. shop where they sell/install air bags and purchase one or something very similar.
