Another Diesel Comparison

My apologies if this has already been posted. This is a decent review and tested a little differently than the pickuptruck.com one. This one seemed to test for sustained towing ability and not just for a thousand feet.

Goes to show that all these trucks are very good at building and maintaining momentum.

It is too bad the allison doesn't come in the Dodge.

http://www.iboats.com/sites/trailerb...e_page_92.html

Good article. I do wish the autos were better in these things... but that's what MODS are for! ;D

I liked these comments:

"The Dodge felt like it could tow a freight train. "

"Since its torque peak comes in around 1400 rpm and its torque curve looks like a plateau that extends to about 3000 rpm, the Dodge/Cummins HO can quickly provide power under almost any conditions. Testers comments included, The new Cummins HO has all the right stuff for heavy-duty towing a thoroughly
capable power plant that exudes industrial might, and Lots of power; just wish it could be coupled to an auto tranny for smoother driving, but plenty of muscle to get the job done."

"The Power Strokes torque curve, however, isnt as flat as the Duramax or Cummins, and declined from peak in a gentle downward slope until about 3200 rpm before falling off dramatically. "
And an automatic tranny would have made towing acceleration smoother. However, as one tester commented, The six-speed is extremely versatile... a manual is more durable, with no concerns about overheating."

KC
Ughhh...

They mention that they Dodge would have done better if it were equipped with an auto instead of the 6-spd. stick.

Also, they said, "shifting the six-speed got old quick and we were very likely to find reverse instead of fifth."

Well then...maybe you should find a tester who is competent enough to drive a stick!

"Here Here" jlells01!!
I had no problem adjusting to the new 6spd and would never get bored of it.
I was told at the dealership that an auto for the HO is due out on the 04 model.

I thought the same thing about the comment about hitting reverse instead of 5th on the 6-spd. Reverse is so far over to the right I actually have the opposite problem, I sometimes get 5th when I'm trying for reverse (lack of attention on my part, this is not a complaint about the 6-spd, I love it). There's no way I could hit reverse by accident. No way.

I agree you could never hit reverse by mistake. Some times 4th instead of 6th, but I’ve only had the truck a week. I haven’t shifted a manual since High School in the old 39 Dodge.

I'm thinking that either the guy driving the truck might not have been that good behind any stick shift. It also could have been that he isn't that big of a Dodge fan so he was looking for anything to critique.
