like most of us 518 guys i am at a cross road. i feel befor i can go any further with power upgrades i need to focus on getting the power i have now to the ground. i am exploring all options 5speed, 47rh, build 518
in my research for upgrading a stock 518 converter this is what i have found.
this will make a HUGE difference in the performance of our trucks

i emailed goerend trannys..

a low stall converter that would make the engine run about 500 rpm lower
would be $550 we do have a extreme low stall stator available that would
add $350 to the cost and lower the stall farter yet either converter
would have a lifetime warranty we can send you the converter first
and then you could send your old core back or you can send yours in and
we can build it and return it if we sent you the converter first
there would be a $300 core charge that you would get back as soon as we
receive your old core

i emailed hughes as well as gave them a call they where great to talk to and seemed very knowledgeable they said they lower our stall by around 300rpms versus the above 500.

On your Diesel, we carry 2 options for the non-lockup unit. We would also have to remanufacture your original due to lack of core availability. We can do a stock replacement unit or we carry a tow master unit. The stock replacement, updated unit is 352.75. Our HD tow master is 469.00. Both units are fully brazed, all new bearings, new hub, machined stator for lower stall speeds. The tow master is enginereed for the low end pulling where the stock is just a stronger than stock unit.

i called dtt as well and they pretty much blew me off.. so no business for them[nonono]

my conclusion... if i where to go this route would be to go with a goerend converter for not much more cash you get a nicer converter with a great warranty i also like the fact that i don't need to send my converter versus hughes you do.
