Steering Box going out!
 

Well..... I guess I should have investing in a ram assisted steering. My steering wheel started to lock when straightening out after turning left. I drained the fluid out of the cooler lines and res. The fluid was very dark and smelled burnt, it also had small pieces of metal in the fluid. I refilled with new fluid, and its helped, but every once in a while it will bind.... I've lifted the front end and checked for any kind of binding, but there is none, so I'm assuming it's my box???

Any ideas what a new one will cost?

mine is starting to leak on my 06. i will have to replace mine b4 long

Is this a common problem in these trucks ?

I had to replace the steering box in my 06. I think dealer charged around $700.00.

Pretty scary turning and when straightening back out, the steering momentarily sticks.....
How would I check if it's the pump or the box? The fluid was nasty, dark and smelled burnt???
