Anybody change your own tranny fluid???

Please help... My Dad has a '98 Ram 2500 with the 24 valve Cummins and the automatic tranny. He has never felt like it has shifted properly since he bought it used. Yesterday he decided to change the transmission fluid himself. While he had the pan off, he noticed that looking up at internals of the tranny there are two solenoid looking things in there. One of them had a "lever" on it...and it appears to be adjustable. The other one had no lever on it but it had lots of freeplay in it. He adjusted the one with the lever a little bit and he said the transmission seems to shift a little bit better now.

My question is...does anybody know what these two solenoid looking things are? What is the proper adjustment for them? My dad wants to know what they should be set to from the factory. He's never seen anything like this before. I think he's got the 47RFE tranny. If anybody knows what this is he's seeing in there let me know. Thanks.

Trans Band adjustment procedures:
http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/transmi...T_band_adj.htm

1998.5-1999
Front Band
47RE - tighten band adj. screw to 72 inch pounds, back off 1 7/8 turns
42 RE - The final adjustment for the front band has been changed to:
back off 3 turns. (TSB 21-16-98)
Rear Band
47RE - tighten band adj. screw to 72 inch pounds, back off 3 turns
The 47RH rear band requires a 1/4" hex driver, the front band requires a T-30 Torx driver, the filter is held in place by two screws which require a T-20 Torx driver
Note, the torque specs are in INCH POUNDS - NOT FOOT POUNDS

Those are the converter clutch solenoid, governor solenoid and overdrive solenoids. As far as I know they aren't adjustable, at least they didn't seem to be when they put them in my trans a couple months ago.

Ill second that.

Dad should have put a VB upgrade/shift kit in it while he had the pan off. He'd realy like the way it shifts with a new VB

Upgraded VP will also upgrade your fluid flow to your lock clutch
