62/14 install

well the new huffer is installed. took about 2 hours. much easier if you remove the left wheel and wheel well liner. had to grind about 1/4" off of the pacbrake bracket to clear the compressor outlet. cruzing egt's are alittle higher since it doesnt spool as quick as stock, but wot egt's are down. just doesnt seem to pull as hard as the stocker did. maybe need more fuel. it is wastegated at 40 psi, gonna bump that to 50. pics will be in the gallery after dinner.

Sounds cool, good for you. It sounds like you need one of those Smarty's, or a TST, or , maybe some injectors to wake that Cummins up  I run a Quad Race box and I don't feel that I would need a bigger Turbo just for that. So a bigger Turbo may need more fuel, which will always be fun. :)

the bigger turbo was for towing egt's. i will be towing to the beach for labor day weekend, so no real trial until then.

if I spend any more money, the wife will kill me. spent $1700 on the turbo and $2200 on tires and wheels in the same day. looks great, but when I'm dead can drive it, and she's more fun to spend the night with(compared to the truck) so I have to behave for a little while.

I would not recommend bumping it up UNTIL you have the fuel to support it,With the Stock CAC all you will be doing is Pushing Hotter Air.Volume is more important than Pressure.Do you have any type of fueling Device"s installed.

i figure with the quad race and bd lift pump kit i have fueling covered.

You would to check with Quad on that, The one"s I have test that work are T-Dog,PPE, Banks PowerPDA.I have not tested the Smarty...You need some type of fuel fooling or the device must have its own downstream software.

i dont follow you there. it doesnt de fuel if thats what you are after.

Did you use a boost fooler? Do you know if the PXRB bracket is the same as the standard PAC brake?

Thanks for the info. Can't wait to hear about your trip to CA over labor day.

dodgezilla04 Aug 21, 2006 12:04 PM

the prxb bracket is the same, just have to radius the corner near the cylinder mounting boss. yes i used the boost fooler($25 extra).
the lag is acceptable, takes about 2 seconds then wham! comes on smooth and strong. just a slight gray haze out the pipe. did a WOT run last night against a turbo'd lancer up to 100mph, not only did we kick his butt, the egt's stayed around 1000* at 45 psi boost. the sound is awesome. different sound than the stocker.

I noticed my crusing boost press is lower for the same speed. must be the larger turbo supplies the needed air at lower boost levels.

overall i am very happy with it so far. we shall see when we go to the coast.

pics are in the gallery, some of the install and some side by side comparisons.

So far do you think it was worth it?

dodgezilla04 Aug 22, 2006 09:49 AM

oh yeah.

took my buddy for a ride last night. his is 99 24v, edge ez, k& n, exhaust, vulcan kit, holley blue, gauges. he also drives blown big block el camino, so he nows power quite well. that truck surprised him!!

I just love hearing that thing hit 12 psi then lights off and zzzzzzoooooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmm, off she goes!!. the driveability is excellent, power incredible, and there is more smoke until it builds boost due to the small amout of lag. i am definately glad I did it.

wap Aug 22, 2006 04:50 PM

Does it feel faster now?
I kinda thought a bigger turbo was in the same class as doin the exhaust, not a whole lot of gain but more for egts and some higher boost.

I am VERY glad to hear it is driveable, I know the 62/12 would be but if your 62/14 is with just a quad I am sure it would be good for me as I plan on runnin a tst with mine.
Thanks for the update

dodgezilla04 Aug 22, 2006 05:03 PM

once it lights off it is faster, the stocker just hits sooner and gives you a more seat of the pants feel in acceleration. but i am positive this thing will walk all over a 1/4 mile time with this huffer compared to when i had the stocker on it.

i may have to see what I can stack with my quad race to get some more fueling down low.
