I'll be taking a trip to DC for a week, so the truck will be sitting. Is it OK to leave the block heater plugged in for that length of time? The weather forecast leads me to expect nighttime lows of about 10-15 degrees F. Thanks.<br><br>I'd really rather drive than submit to airline &quot;security,&quot; but SWMBO can't drive my truck with the manual and the timeframe for the trip really isn't long enough for me to drive it solo.<br><br>Oh, yeah: anybody want me to smack your congresscritter for you while I'm there?

Your 2002 should start fine without the block heater down and I believe below zero (check manual). If the truck is not moving while you're gone, I see no reason for plugging it in. It's fine left cold. It's also ok to leave it plugged in, but you're looking at about $18 tacked onto the electric bill for 24/7 heat.

Just plug her in about 2 hours before you want to run it when you get home! No probs no need to waste electricity all week.

The auxiliary backup lights are an absolute requirement if you want to back up in these trucks, but they don't add much to the straight-line performance.
