I Painted Over my Rust!

you know POR15. i ordered the starter kit awile ago to fix the rust on the bottom of my doors, and got it via ups today so i decided to try it out. pretty straight forward process, but tedious, do this and wait, now do this and wait some more. but i hope it's all worth it. i went with the silver in hopes it matched my factory two tone and it's not a bad match, a shade darker, but not bad. i only got my driver's door done for the fact that it started raining and getting dark anyway so i closed up to let her dry and i'll takcle the passenger and two extended cab doors at a later date.

so, with you that have experience with this stuff, does it really work and is it worth it? i heard it was but i just want some more positive, aaaand negative if you have any.

I traded the above truck in for a Chevy Colorado. Now I'm Cummins-less, and I regret it everyday. Please forgive me DTR! I'm working on getting another Cummins ASAP!

yea but it's still smart to get the rust off before you paint it.

I have always heard that the POR 15 does not adhere to to bare metal properly. It relies on rust to form a strong bond. My buddy painted his whole frame with it a few years ago, just removed the scale with a wire brush, that was about it. It is still nice and rust free today. It faded a little bit because he didn't top coat it to protect it from UV rays, but looks 100 times better than rust. It's worth the money!

i would too. but i bet if you wanted to do it right, i would assume that the whole body would have to be pulled off, correct? and that's a lot of work. unless i get really really bored one day with some money, i'll just stick to the little stuff

What colours can you get it in? Would using it on your frame be more effective then powdercoating the frame if you were to strip it completely anyways?

Just like rustoleum rusty metal primer... needs a rusty surface to dry out otherwise it doesn't take a top coat too well...

The bottom of my door is too far gone for any kind of paint. Just needs a new door, or to be cut out, and have a piece welded in.
