Just kidding. I've always wondered if oil had a specified shelf life as well. I guess you could send in a small sample for oil testing and see how the results turn out. I would think after sitting for so many years something inside must start to break down?

Yep - that's what I was thinking..... break down. It's also aged technology and might not be good for more modern diesel engines.

Because it's sealed I would think it's still OK. You can go to the Amsoil web site and there is a spot to ask questions. As I use Amsoil I have asked a few over the years.

It needs to be formulated correctly for a diesel. Gasser oil won't work well in a diesel. It can't suspend the soot in the oil which will increase wear alot.
I see SJ-CF ratings on the bottle. I don't think that is what is required for our engines. CI-4 rating, if memory serves me correct, is more like what you would need.

I believe S= spark ignition(gas) and C= compression ignition(diesel)
so that oil would be good for gasser not diesel
