Does it lockup in third? Does your cruise control work?

If you don't have third gear lockup and your cruise control is not working .,... then suspect over voltage condition at the TPS .... if so ... TPS is shot ...
Re:no over drive

Big&ampBad, Are you sure you still have 1st. These Ram diesels have so much power they with start out in 2nd without a problem. If tranny is a 47RE no 1st & 4th indicates it is in limp mode. Could be in governor or in overdrive soleniod circuit, overdrive piston seal failure, PCM. 47RH tranny did not have electronic governor.

Re:no over drive

It's hard not having your truck. Mine went in one week for new tranny (sensors and governors crapped out for some reason after a year of service), then went in for a day for new pads and rotors turned, then went in the next week for new lift pump. Talk about tough. I had to drive my dad's 6.5L Turbo Diesel Chevy. Talk about a dog.

Re:no over drive

does your transmission temp light come on? I had a bad temp sensor in the tranny cooling line, drove me crazy!!! put new one in worked for about a week and started again and found it was a loose connector mating with the sensor. Also had troubles with throttle pos sensor. B4 you go and buy a new one take it off (attached to the side of the injector pump) and spray the living hell out of it with contact cleaner. (I've heard of guys using wd40 but I would suggest the former)Then turn the spring loaded mech. a whole bunch of times to clean the contacts and clean it off with a rag. repeat the proceedure untillthe liqiud coming out of the tps is clean. You won't believe how dirty it gets in there. hope this helps!

Re:no over drive

If that's the case, then time for a full DTT or ATS tranny. ;D I'd want to look at the fluid myself just to make sure. If he lets you, then check to see if it is burnt smelling and you can see the shavings in there. Have you ever noticed the truck shuddering when it went into lockup?

Re:no over drive

I feel for you man! After I bought my 95 a year and a half ago the tranny puked its atf about 2 months after i got it. B4 it went it would hunt between 3rd and forth like crazy @ about 1700 rpm. The rebuilders did their job but it continued hunting. They ripped it out 4 more times replacing everything and finally put in a new rebuild, still hunted! finally took it to the ******* and they fixed it with a new tranny temp sensor.
I'm not a mechanic and certainly not as well versed as some of our fellow web members but some times for the guys not too familiar with this stuff get results from the stealers. Call me insane but the rebuilders were a bunch of idiots and the tranny was fixed with a $22 part.

Re:no over drive

Maybe you could just ry to put in a lockup switch. Then you will see whether the problem is electricor hydraulic. If it locks up and stays- go for tranny temp, gov- pressure etc all them sensors. (Including connectors.)

AlpineRAM
