run a wire from the small stud on the solenoid
to battery positive.

What ^^^ he ^^^ said.

Also, if the starter-cable is still factory-original, there should be a BROWN wire routed along-side the big cable that terminates in a plug along with a PINK wire (I may not be remembering these colors correctly; it will be the only wire taped along the big cable).

This BROWN wire is attached to the small solenoid terminal on the starter.

Simply poke a short length of wire into the BROWN wire's side of the plug (at the top end near the battery) and touch this wire to battery-HOT --- preferably AWAY from the battery itself, like maybe a HOT grid-heater stud or some other HOT source.

Your PCM needs to see a ground signal from the neutral safety switch. The 3 pin, round plug that is part of the OEM wiring is the the neutral, reverse lights. Take a small piece of wire and insert it into the middle connection...that is the neutral ground. Then run the wire to the frame to ground it. The motor should now start as normal.

Will the engine run properly with the trnas not mounted? IIRC the T/C on an automatic adds to the weight needed on the flywheel.

I ran my 93 motor with no auto tranny in the donor truck. Didn't run it for very long, 5-10minutes, but ran fine with no additional vibration that I could discern.

That concern is a vestige of working with Mopar 360 engines vs 318 engines. The 360 automatic torque converter has a weight on it that is part of the crank balance. If you replace that 360 with a 318 and don't change the torque converter, it'll shake like crazy, and vice versa.

BTDT got the T-shirt.
