Re:New home for heater plug
I haven't seen one in person, but had a thought.
When I get my new front bumper (big, beefy, winch capable, etc) I am seriously thinking about having a receptacle (weatherproof hopefully) put in the bumper, recessed enough, or with a weatherproof cover to keep snow out when plugged in.

The way it is now, you either have it coming out under the grill, exposed to the elements, or keep it under the hood, and have to lift the hood each morning.

I found a temporary kinda-fix.
Saw a pic of someone's truck with the cord coming out of the stock driving light holes (neither his nor mine have factory driving lites).
It kinda keeps it out of direct weather, be it snow or rain, but has just enough slack to keep it from falling back in (has a couple of times, but easy enough to fish back out unless fingers are frostbit).

kinda rambled there.

phox

Re:New home for heater plug
After I got my DOR bumper this summer I too was tired of the plug thing. I had a problem with it tripping my breaker in the garage with snow melt overnight or being encrusted in ice by the time I got home. Since have moved and have no garage that the truck can fit in. So several months ago I went to a local electrical supply house picked up a Leviton Weatherguard box, recepticle w/cover, and matching plug. It is rated for submersion. They only make the recepticles with a female so I got the plug and switched out the end of my extension cord. It is (was) bright yellow but a coat of black liquid rubber on the box and cover cured that. I have at least for the time being mounted the box on the top of my bumper right next to the upright. It looks fairly well but next summer it may get tweaked to become a little more stealthy. Only a few snows and wet nights so far this winter but so far works great. No matter how much crud is on the outside open the cover and it is nice and dry just waiting for the plug.
