New Here - Gauge Questions

I'm new here, just joined. Just bought a new 2009 3500 with 6.7L CTD. Wondering what gauges and gauge mounts everyone is using. I tow a 15,000 lbs fifth wheel and want to at least look at EGT and Tranny Temp. What is the need for a boost gauge? Can I get a better Engine Temp gauge to replace the one in the dash cluster... it doesn't even start to move until the engine has reached 140 degrees? Any other recommendations?

Welcome aboard and enjoy your truck. You can do a search on this forum under gages to see what is out there. Their are several different styles for sale some are gages and others are a quad monitor that the user can pick what he wants to monitor.
I have a A-Pillar tri-Gage mount that has Boost, Trans Temp and EGT. The boost is used to monitor the air flow into the engine. I used this mainly when towing, since I am mainly stock. I measure the trans temp at the pan, I run a Mag-Hytec pan which is Al and has extra fluid capacity. The EGT Gage will scare you the first time the truck goes into regen. When you experience the high EGT's that are registered. Just remember that the 6.7L was designed fro these temperatures and you just need to let the engine cool before shutting off.
Keep reading and you will learn from all of the experience of all of the users on this site.

I too am going to go with a 3 gauge A-Pillar mount. They have one that looks factory especially with the Dipricol white face gauges that very closely match the stock gauges. I like the look and location of the A-pillar mounts the best. Only downfall is that you lose your grab handle

I use the Srt10 pillar mount and a dual SPA guage, keeps grab handle, looks factory and the fastest, most accurate guage made. You could order it as EGT tran temp.

I would check out Geno's Garage. You can contact them at "www.genosgarage.com". They carry the gages, A-pillar and wiring for the install. Or check out this site too.
Good Luck.

I personally went with the overhead windshield mount that goes over the rear view mirror. Pyro, boost, Tranny EV2 series gauges. I was going to try the Optix gauges by DI Pricol but they were back ordered indefinitely at GENOs.

Do you have some pics of this mount? How do you like it? Fit? Overall look? How does it mount up there? Any viewing issues? Sorry for all the questions as I'm looking for a good place to mount as well without losing the grab handle on the pillar.

I have the A pillar triple pod with the dipricol optix guages. They are as close as you can get to a factory look. The best place I found to get them was from Rip at sourceautomotive.biz. As far as loosing the grab handle, thats why you have a steering wheel!!!!

Go with an Edge Insight. It will show up to 4 reading at a time. Also has fun stuff like 0-60 and 1/4 mile tests. It also has the ability to check and clear the CEL. Having the 6.7L also means you will have CELs.

Here are some pics of the Overhead windshield pod mounts. I used EV2 gauges from Isspro. This view is as close to where I see them as possible with a camera.

More of a closeup of the actual gauges. Here the truck is running on high idle with the EB on.. Hense the higher EGT and boost.
