Lost Tach and Overdrive (intermitant)

Truck sometimes looses tach and O/D also stops charging. Starts off in third gear.

Then you start it up the next day, everything is fine till all of a sudden, same thing.

I want to say PCM trouble.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Have you checked the engine crank sensor? sounds to me like it may be failing once it gets hot, typical of coil type sensors. Its mounted on front of the engine just down beside the water pump pulley facing the balancer.

Ok,

Replaced the sensor and so far so good!

Dodge wanted $120

Cummins $63

So you know where I ended up.

Thanks Again! Happy Thanksgiving

It's even cheaper at the autoparts.
The same ESS was used on most Chrysler vehicles of this vintage, plenty popular and available.
