Looking to bomb first gen

Hey guys Im looking at getting a first gen and of course cannot leave it stock. My main question is where is a good place to start. I've read alot about people getting 300 rwp hp out of them for under 1k but other sites say different. Where do I start on modifying? I would really like to put twin stacks on it, where can I find a set of plans or a kit? How much did these put out at the rear wheels stock? How much more could I squeeze out of the ctd for 1k? I will slowly put more money into it, just not looking to put that much into it right now. I can do things my self such as installing gauges and playing with the pump but just dont know how. Where can I find some guage installing instructions and some injector pump tuning instructions. How hard is it to get more out of the stock pump and how do I do that? I'm looking at going with a 5 sp so how much is the stock clutch good for? After what mods do I need to get an aftermarket one?
Thanks for any info you can give me,
Mack

Re:Looking to bomb first gen

You can see my sig. for "BOMB'ing" , hp and torque numbers. I think nascarmark is under $1000 for his 300rwhp with POD injectors and pump tweaking being the main contributors to his numbers. I started with gauges, exhaust, turbo (14cm2) and a K&N air filter. I then went to PW injectors and finally a "built" pump my current mods can be had for under $2000.

HP is measured at the flywheel. Most agree that you will see a 20% loss thru the drive train with an auto tranny and 15 to 17% with a manual. If you do the math that comes out to 128 rwhp on the auto and 136 to 133 rwhp with the manual.

Try this link for info on the VE pump http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/more_power/Power_ve.htm
Hope this helps
Bob

Bob is right. The stock truck can easily be modified for under $1000. You can buy POD's and 16cm exhaust housing for $590 from Piers Diesel Research and some tweeking to achieve some good numbers. I made 308.2rwhp with this set up and a PDR cam but anyone that knows their stuff will tell you the cam doesn't make much power. Thats not what the cam is for. It's to help with lowering EGT's and faster spool up, with alittle better fuel milelage help. If you do a search on this site and others you will pick up alot of tips to get you up there. Gauges are number 1 then injectors, housing, exhaust etc. The std tranny should be good for 300hp if looked after and 1 extra quart of gear oil.

mark
