Long trip - Dodge Diesel

Hey all, I plan on taking my 91 W250 to maine for a 436 mile drive (almost 1,000 miles round trip). Before I leave I'm going to make sure all the fluids are filled and give the motor a oil change. I'm really nervous about the long trip, I've been having awful luck with spectra radiators. Few months ago a pin hole blew apart a vein and was pouring all over the ground. I caught it when I pulled in my drive way, plenty of fluid just a steady stream. Must have just happen, so far I've had it replaced and it's been working for a few months. What else should I bring? It's a single cab but I do have a toolbox I can throw stuff in there. Maybe I should buy parts so I have replacements(if so what?)? The NP205 is getting rebuilt and that will be ready to go (no more leak around the seal). I might need to buy a spare tire and just a steel rim.

Truck has the KDP fix, New Radiator, New Water Pump, New Pulley Belt, New Belt Tensioner, New Head Lights, New Valve Cover Gaskets, New Brakes (calipers, Pads and lines and master cylinder). I think I'll be okay, just want to prepare.

Probly a good idea to take a extra fuel filter just incase. And make sure your back brakes are adjusted properly

The rule I use is that if a failure would be an easy roadside fix, if I only had the part, I have that part. Maybe overkill but the following lives in my truck (along with all necessary tools): Alternator, starter, lift pump, fuel filter, headlamps, clutch master and slave, fluids, 2 batteries and jump pack, water pump, antifreeze, fan belt, clutch and pp (not a roadside repair, probably) and 131 gallons of #2 (I hate to stop for fuel), 2 spare tires. There is probably more, but I can't remember. I travel to Mexico so I plan for lack of parts even if it fails in a large city (not likely)...Mark

my biggest fear on a long trip would be a fusable-link. that is given the obvious necessities are met. ie: good tires and at least one spare (with a jack and lug tools). topped up fluids (all of them). well greased U-joints. a thorough check of the brakes/steering!

Shoot 1000 mile trip? thats not a long one.

I usually carry a spare tire or 2 W/ chains if going into mountanous areas,alt,WP,belt, tensioner, both hoses and some tools and a pair of jumpers. I also carry some fluids with me too. I have yet to need any of it and since the middle of January I've put about 10000 miles on my 1st gens 8000 of that was on my old 90.

Being you got lots of new parts I'd just get in and go.

My theory is that if I didn't have it, it would break. I don't know if it's true, but I'm not willing to test it...Mark
