Its crazy, I just hear so many mixed reviews. The fact that the local tire and lift place (Schwab's) won't put the SJ on these trucks is what leaves me unsettled the most. I guess in the end you just gotta go with the gut. Awesome looking rig by the way. You got any close ups? You East coast boys know how to make the first gens look sweet.

Check out www.alcanspring.com. Much stronger design than the skyjackers. I have 4 inch skyjacker springs all around on the truck and 3 inch Alcan's all around on the Ramcharger. No comparison in ride quality in the front. Hard to compre the rear, as the RC is much softer, as its not a truck.
Skyjackers, with drop pitman, adj drag. Alcans, steering still stock. Crossover in the future. Here's some shots ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Nice looking rigs Fred - heck all the trucks in this thread are good lookin. What kind of fuel mileage do you get with the Ramcharger?
Anyone know how much spring lift to keep the stock 93 4x4 height eliminating the lift block? FWIW, I've heard alot of good about Alcan.

I have two 6 inch Skyjacker kits on my '85 crew cab and my '72 step side - both have a small block not a CTD. The last Skyjacker kit I put on my Crew came with the bigger bushings for the diesel specific front shackles and the regular bushings for the gassers too. Is Skyjacker is doing this they must be comfortable with people using the kit on CTD trucks.
Yes the settle over time the - I lifted the '72 in '99 but still clear the 38x15.5 with a lot of trimming. Get the rear new springs not the add a leaf as it will ride stiff like a dump truck. I am happy with just the $75 dollar [ish] 3 inch steering block spacer that goes over the king pin and under the steering arm on the driverside. Super lift makes it. You end up with a bit of bump steer and a steering wheel which turns tighter one way than the other. I can live with this - you don't buy a crew cab if turning radius is a pet peeve.

Another thought is I just sold my '96 CTD and bought another '85 crew cab with a '89 CTD already installed. I was going to convert my other '85 crew over to CTD power this winter so I bought it and I'll keep the other a gasser for now.
The point is that the previous owner used airbags over the leaf springs all around. He custom welded the brackets for the bags and has them plumbed up to an air compressor and small air tank. I can adjust front and back from the driver seat. He also removed a few leaves front and back so the truck rides on the airbags but also is softer sprung when unweighted w/o the stiff leaf pack. This ended up with a mild lift, 2-4 inches depending on PSI in the bags and it rides sweet for a 1 ton. The back still rides better with a little weight in the bed but what truck doesn't. I might be able to borrow a digital camera a try to upload a shot I anyone thinks that sounds slick. I have driven a lot of old Dodge trucks lifted and not and this one is smooth out on the road - full of firewood or not. |

penguinman, Alcan only makes custom springs, and they know exactly what is needed to support the C motor. A comparison. Skyjacker front spring pack, under 2 inches in thickness with somewhat thin 5 leaves. The Alcan pack, over 2.5 inches, with 7 thicker leaves.
The difference is in drivability too. The Skyjacker is stiffer, and doesn't flex, where the Alcans support the weight and lift, but allow the pack to flex when needed. They guarantee the lift from 1-6 inches, and do say some settling will occur, but nothing major. |

this is about a 4 inch lift, I made custom Hangers etc...Cost me very little..
shocks and a 4 inch drop pitman arm is about it... google rcc lift for more info ![]()

Drewsta, that truck is sick. About the Alcan, they sound like a good way to go. I know settling occurs on lifting stuff, I have just heard a few horror stories on some of the skyjacker lifts, but then a bunch of guys love em'. I also call Deaver springs, and they build them too. The spring guy there said they only do up to 4" on the CTD....4" or 6", gotta pick a way to go.
