Lift Pump Dead.

Hey Guys! I replaced my lift pump 2 days ago cause my onld one was not so hot @ 126K so I replaced it & all is good I did not run the truck till today, went to start it up it started idled real wierd so I figured i better feel the pump it's vibrating so then I shut it down to see if it's priming the sys. go to start back up again & it wont start so I stood on the accell. & cranked it over a few times & it sputtered & started but I did not want to run it like that so I shut it down again to see if it would hold prime same thing.... got it so I started it & moved it out of the way & shut it off & starting listening to the pump to hear it run it's real quiet can hardly hear it & before it was louder when it was working somewhat........ needless to say i'm quite upset cummins sold me a bad lift pump that lasted only one day, the other thing wierd about this pump was when I opened the box it smelled like diesel fuel & had some in the bag, so i'm thinking that cummins may have sold me a used lift pump that was bad & was brought back to them, anyways i'm going to have to rip out the pump tomorrow & go down to cummins on mon. & get it exchanged for another one because i can't even run my truck, I should charge them for my hour wasted. but.........
tha starnge thing is that it wont even hold prime the check valve in the pump must also be bad.

well enough ranting! any ideah's
truck ran better with a beat lift pump than this pile!

Drecu

Re:Lift Pump Dead.

How about giving them a call and casually mention about their failure to deliver service and invite them to come get the truck and fix it right? I'd definitely be having a serious conversation with someone in the higher parts of their food chain.

~Dave

Re:Lift Pump Dead.

drecu there's no check valves in the pumps, as soon as my pump stops running the pressure drops to zero.

They failed to complete a contract with you in that they failed to restore your truck to operational status. Have you definitely proved that the pump is USED? Does the work order say anything about the pump being anything other than new equipment? Sounds like a good case for fraud. Didn't we just go through something similar a few years ago about repairmen substituting old, used, reconditioned equipment for new and getting caught finally. If you pay for new equipment and receive less than that, it's parts substitution and is fraud, especially if you were not notified of that substitution. I'd have in hand a price of the new pump (from another source) for comparison. Take those warm feelings they've given you this weekend and drop them back on their doorstep. Preferably when the waiting room is full of other customers and your volume control is loud enough to get everyone's attention. Just my thoughts on the situation.

~Dave

Re:Lift Pump Dead.

Well I went there & brought it straight to the counter & to the guy who sold it to me, I show him the pump & told him that my truck would not run with this pump & it is defective & that I put my old one back on & the truck runs better with that one, so he walks out to the back somewhere for about 3 min's & comes back & said he needs my VIN# Engine # Milage on my truck & all this stuff & then he has to send it to cummins & they have to check it & if they say it's no good then the Cummins dealer will get paid & then I can get a new one or whatever.. so he tell's me " if we get paid you get paid" I was mad & I did not have time to take it upstairs but they are gonna hear it now, i'm gonna walk right in with that pump & ask directly for the manager..... I bought this pump on friday! & I paid 132.00 so I could use the darn thing & this is what I get..I don't think so.
ok so why the heck do they need all that info on my truck first & what do you all think.

Re:Lift Pump Dead.

I think those pumps are tested before they leave the factory. At a minimum they are shipped with something similar to diesel in them. I've helped install several new ones and they all had that diesel in the plastic bag that it comes in.

Re:Lift Pump Dead.

DRECU,
I think what has happened to you is rare. I don't believe every pump is tested by Cummins after all they are made by Carter. They are however shipped with some sort of prelube that may or maynot be diesel. They do not need your mileage, that's BS. Get one from NAPA, cheaper and no BS to exchange. Keep a spare on the shelf.

Hope it all works out.

BTW if anything happenes to my truck while they are taking thier time I told them they are gonna pay for any damage, come on the pump was 1 day old they could have at least taken it into the garage & tested it in there, if they don't come through on this it's the last time i'm gonna buy from them.....
ok I better stop before I get myself even more worked up!

DRecu!
