intermittent power loss

i had my truck apart this weekend to change the pushrod cover gasket, so i had the vp off and the ecm. now its running funny. it sounds way more rattly, like its running really cold. and randomly it looses power. like 3 psi boost right to the floor. no smoke or anything, its just not giving it fuel. then it cuts back in and runs normal right up to 45 psi. all the gauges on the monitor indicate good. any ideas?

Have you ever experienced dead pedal? Almost sounds like what you're describing.

Maybe its something simple like a missed loose connection. But you mentioned that the VP was completely removed. Are you positive that you reinstalled it correctly and didn't misalign the key?

I've been checking the connections, tightening them up, still doing it. Just unhooked the chip. Gonna try it like that.
If the pump key wasn't lined up, wouldn't it run horribly?

If the key was misaligned then it "should" have a miss at idle. Does it run weird all the time or is this something intermittent?

Try resetting the APPS. Maybe something went awry when reinstalling since I'm guessing you disconnected the batteries.

Pulled the pump back off and sure enough I didn't get the key all the way in and it sheared it off. I know your supposed to get a special key for each pump but all I had was a straight key and its running good with that

Thats a bummer. At least you found the problem. And yes, I understand that each VP requires a matched specific key but I couldn't say exactly why and what would happen if someone used another key.
