Does the POT mod help with TC lockup going in and out while crusing at light throttle, or is a lock up switch the only cure.

Thanks Brett

Brett, the POT replaces the TPS function.. the TPS is realy just a potentiometer itself.. it realy just swithcing from an automatic one to a manual one....
if its adjusted properly, the truck will shift in and out of OD just lilke it did when the TPS was functioning properly..

I gotcha, Im just wondering if it'll fix the problem with the touchy pedal with a 4GSK and the coverter unlocking and locking while at a lite cruise when your barely on the pedal.

I'm sure you could add a switch to your setup. Not sure really. The mod just controls the sholenoid shift into O/D for the really OOOOLLLLD trucks. Not your new fangled stuff!

The POT should fix his problem. Mine hasnt done any hunting with the POT installed. I have been very happy with it so far. I havent touched it since i got overdrive dialed in at 45mph.

So with a pot installed will the truck downshift at all by itself when leaning hard on the go pedal.

No. If you want a downshift to 3rd above the point you've set for the shift you have to manually kick it out of overdrive with the override button on the dash (or on the shift selector if you've installed a 2nd Gen. shifter).

Thanks Tucker. I think I just might have to do this little mod. I've definetly had TPS trouble in the past.

Thanks again for the great write-up

Sorry if this sounds foolish, but it completely replaces the tps? Looks as though it does and then the ecm will use the setting you have it at to shift to od instead of carring where the throttle is??

thanks

I was able to find the info on the 29196. It has been replaced by 29197. The stats on it are 5k ohm (as stated originaly) and it is rated for 1/2 watt (what I really wanted to find out). I was able to get one at radio shack for $3 with the same info. (radio shack p/n 271-1714). They also had *****, but I will be going back to look for a differant one (picked one out that might be to small on the od).

I am wondering how I know which wire of the pot goes to which wire on the truck????

thanks

The thread in the Stickey explains this very well, but it really doesnt matter as long as the center wire stays "center wire".. the two outside ones can be reversed, it just means that the POT willwork backwards( turn counterclockwise vs clockwise).
