Injector change on LB7 duramax info

Has anyone here done an injector swap on a LB7 (2003) Duramax? Got a friend whose truck need injectors, and is a little tight for cash right now (the truck is PAST GM warranty period). Shop quoted 12 hours labor to do them, so I said I would look into it and possibly do them if it doesn't require a bunch of specialty tools.

Any tips or a link to a step-by-step would be appreciated.

Gm extended the warranty period on the LB7 injectors to 200,000 miles. You might want to check it out. Those injectors are a real pain, I think they were doing you a favor quoting 12 hours.

its a ton of work. Big PITA. My wifes 2003 Duramax has 103,000 miles and they just warrantied her injectors. Took 7 hours. only a couple were going bad, but GM replaced all of them anyway. Didnt cost me a dime.
The warranty is good for 200,000 miles or 7 years from build date.
Her warranty was up in 2 months, so i was cutting it close. Glad to have it done.
How many miles do you have? what was build date?

it is a real pita to do it you need special tools and if by chance you break one off in the head then you have to remove the head i know this for fact because the dealer that did my 2002 broke 2 of them because they were stuck in the head after all was said and done the so call new injectors only lasted a week and started leaking fuel again so i got rid of the truck.

Note Bosch quit making new injectors for the lb7 so everything that is out there is a reman injector

Truck has 240,000 miles. Well past getting them done under warranty. They probably have been done already atleast once.

I did look at the Diesel Page, but you need to buy a membership, which is fine unless there isn't any useful information there.

Sounds like he may have to choke it and get them done. Thanks for the replies.

I work at a chevy dealer, but I don't do GM I work for the import side of the dealer, the GM guys do a set a month, the only tool that I think that is a must is the injector removal tool which I think is only about $60. the flat rate time is 13.5to r+r all 8. They are not that hard just a lot of crap to remove. The tool number is J 44639 do a search on line and you might be able to find one cheaper.

I was looking on "the dieselpage", who wants you to buy a membership.

I did look at the diesel place and found the write-up. Thanks

Thanks also for that tool number.

Got this job done this past weekend. Not a bad job, but tons of crap to remove off the engine to get to the valve covers.

Thanks for the link to the diesel place. The write-up help avoid any unexpected surprises.
