The government is finally cracking down on the necessary documentation to work. Employers are being forced to ask now. A local nursery lost 40% of its workforce here when the worker's papers didn't exist. The nursery told the workers "La Migra" was scheduled to come buy,so the workers split. Remittances are way down to Mexico as the slowing economy is drying up jobs here. An orderly enforcement of laws already on the books would have negated the construction of the "Fence". Big and small business influenced the government to look the other way all these years. Most of these folks are real decent. They just need to come here legally. We are a nation of laws.

SHERMAN, Tex. ― Police in Sherman seized $180,000 worth of meth in what they call one of the biggest meth houses they have ever seen. Rashi Vats has more.
The Sherman Police Department held a press conference this morning describing what they are calling one of the biggest meth busts in the past 10 years. Police served a search warrant in the 1200 block of North Branch Street in Sherman. Inside, police found more than 4 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $180,000. Police also found more than $23,000 in cash. Sherman police say they arrested three men, all in their twenties and reportedly illegal immigrants from Mexico. Police say all three are at the Grayson County Jail, placed under a federal immigration hold. "They have a hold placed on them through ICE for immigration, and there will be an additional set of charges placed in addition to the 4 pounds of methamphetamine," Sgt. Bruce Dawsey of the Sherman Police Department said. The Sherman Police Department says that their cooperation with the Denison Narcotics Division is what made the bust possible. The next step is a civil forfeiture hearing.

I bought a bird feeder. I hung
It on my back porch and filled It with seed. What a beauty of A bird feeder it is, as I filled it Lovingly with seed. Within a Week we had hundreds of birds Taking advantage of the Continuous flow of free and Easily accessible food. But then the birds started Building nests in the boards Of the patio, above the table, And next to the barbecue. Then came the poop. It was Everywhere: on the patio tile, The chairs, the table ... Everywhere! Then some of the birds Turned mean. They would Dive bomb me and try to Peck me even though I had Fed them out of my own Pocket. And others birds were Boisterous and loud. They Sat on the feeder and Squawked and screamed at All hours of the day and night And demanded that I fill it When it got low on food. After a while, I couldn't even Sit on my own back porch Anymore. So I took down the Bird feeder and in three days The birds were gone. I cleaned Up their mess and took down The many nests they had built All over the patio. Soon, the back yard was like It used to be.... Quiet, serene And no one demanding their Rights to a free meal. Now let's see. Our government gives out Free food, subsidized housing, Free medical care, and free Education and allows anyone Born here to be an automatic Citizen. Then the illegals came by the Tens of thousands. Suddenly Our taxes went up to pay for Free services; small apartments Are housing 5 families; you Have to wait 6 hours to be seen By an emergency room doctor; Your child's 2nd grade class is Behind other schools because Over half the class doesn't speak English. Corn Flakes now come in a Bilingual box; I have to 'press one' to hear my bank Talk to me in English, and People waving flags other Than 'Old Glory' are Squawking and screaming In the streets, demanding Mor e rights and free liberties. Just my opinion, but maybe it's time for the government To take down the bird feeder. |

Texas Legislature to see several bills addressing illegal immigration
AUSTIN – Advocates for a crackdown on illegal immigrants, apparently undaunted by their failures in the last Legislature, have filed a slew of bills for the upcoming session that are even stronger in tone and approach.
The proposals go well beyond the usual proposals to require ID to vote or requiring citizenship to get a driver's license. One would require public schools to check the citizenship of their students. Another would require illegal immigrants to live in self-described "sanctuary cities." Author Leo Berman, R-Tyler, said he filed it mainly to make a point to cities that describe themselves as "sanctuaries," or havens for illegal immigrants. "The federal government is requiring us to give free education and health care to illegals," Mr. Berman said. "It's the largest unfunded mandate in the history of our nation." Two years ago, Republican House leaders decided that the issue was too sticky for the state to deal with and killed most of the bills. One measure, a voter ID bill, died in the Senate and is likely to die there again. Many proposals were deemed unconstitutional by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, a Republican. One bill filed for the 2009 session allows police to check people's immigration status under "reasonable suspicion" that they might be illegal immigrants. Another refuses birth certificates to children born in the U.S. to parents who are here illegally. On the flip side, a bill by Rep. Roberto Alonzo, D-Dallas, prohibits cities from restricting landlords on who can rent homes from them – a direct criticism of Farmers Branch's efforts to keep illegal immigrants from renting homes there. Some lawmakers say bills attempting to solve illegal immigration at the state level – no matter how popular – miss the point. "The reality is that these problems can only be solved in Washington, D.C.," said Rep. Rafael Anchía, D-Dallas. "Even if every immigration-related bill passed in the Texas House, it would be wholly ineffective at dealing with the larger issue of how we align our immigration policy with the needs of our labor force. And that's what's driving illegal immigration." But, you have to start somewhere! On the table Dozens of immigration- related bills have been filed for the Legislature. Some of them: Anti-crackdown – A bill by Rep. Roberto Alonzo, D-Dallas, would prohibit cities from regulating who may rent homes there, a direct reaction to attempts by Farmers Branch to crack down on illegal immigrants. Anti-sanctuary – A bill by Rep. Leo Berman, R-Tyler, would require illegal immigrants to live in "sanctuary cities." He says he filed the bill to make a point: Cities shouldn't declare themselves immigration "sanctuaries." Taxing remittances – Good one! Mr. Berman also filed a bill that would levy an 8 percent fee on all money being sent from Texas to Mexico, Central America and South America. The money would go toward indigent health care. Human smuggling – A bill by Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, D-San Antonio, would establish an anti-human trafficking task force in the Texas attorney general's office. Police checks – Good one! A bill by Rep. Debbie Riddle, R-Houston, would allow police to check immigration status on "reasonable suspicion" and arrest those with illegal status for violating criminal trespassing laws. |

Stop yields $1 million worth of cocaine
GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado — A traffic stop by Western Colorado Drug Task Force officers allegedly turned up 28 pounds of cocaine worth an estimated $1 million, all hidden in the back of a Jeep Liberty.
Jose De Jesus Serrano-Mata, aka Valentine Valverde-Hernandez, was stopped just before 4 a.m. Thursday for allegedly following too close to another vehicle eastbound on Interstate 70 around mile post 12, according to an arrest affidavit. The driver handed Task Force officers a Mexican driver’s license identifying himself as Serrano-Mata, 31. He said he was driving to Kansas from Los Angeles to visit family for 15 days. An alleged unidentified chemical odor drew suspicions as did the Jeep Liberty’s odometer reading — 169,000 miles. Registration information showed the Liberty had 118,421 miles as of mid-February this year. “That averages out to about 750 miles a week,” the officer wrote. According to the affidavit, the officer told the driver he was free to leave, but the officer then asked and received permission to search the car. “Obvious signs of tampering,” were allegedly found on the Liberty’s rear deck and rear seats. An officer used a power drill to open a suspected hidden compartment. “When the drill went through the metal a white powder blew out of the hole,” the affidavit said. Ten packaged bricks of suspected cocaine were pulled out — around “48,000 dosage units” worth roughly $1 million, the affidavit said. When interviewed by federal immigration authorities, Serrano-Mata allegedly said his real name was Valentine Valverde-Hernandez, 30. He was booked into the Mesa County Jail on suspicion of a special offender drug charge, distribution of cocaine and criminal impersonation. A check of his criminal history showed he’d recently been deported, according to the affidavit. |
