I had a short piece of 4" PVC pipe in my shop leftover from a dust collector project, so I decided to make a quick-n-dirty torque tube. I turned the end rings from a piece of 3/4" ABS plate then solvent-bonded the whole thing together and sprayed some charcoal grey paint on it.... less than an hour start to finish ('cept for waiting for the paint to dry)
I've had it in the truck for about a month, and while there's no noticeable performance increase, I highly doubt it has hurt . I will say that the turbo whistle is slightly more noticeable, but it isn't obnoxious (the wife hasn't noticed and she hears everything). I left the white plastic baffle and the silencer ring in place.
I've been getting amazingly great fuel economy lately, but I credit the Smarty Jr for that.
